HEAT Signs Duncan Robinson

MIAMI, July 10 – The Miami HEAT announced today that they have signed forward Duncan Robinson to a Two-Way Contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Robinson has appeared in five Summer League games (all starts) with the HEAT in both Sacramento and Las Vegas and is averaging 12.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 25.0 minutes while shooting 57.9 percent (22-of-38) from the field and 63 percent (17-of-27) from three-point range. He connected on 5-of-6 from three-point range on July 3 against the Los Angeles Lakers in the California Classic Summer League in Sacramento and followed that by shooting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc in his next game on July 5 against the Sacramento Kings, both wins. Additionally, in his two games in Las Vegas so far, Robinson is shooting 70 percent (7-of-10) from downtown.

Grades: Isaiah Thomas Can Rejuvenate Career in Nuggets' Low-Risk Gamble

One year ago, Isaiah Thomas was regularly mentioned in the same breath as Kyrie Irving and John Wall. Today, the two-time All-Star guard more closely resembles Enron and Lehman Brothers.

The Nuggets reportedly agreed on Thursday to sign the 29-year-old Thomas to a one-year contract for the veteran’s minimum, a deal that represents the fourth stage of a precipitous decline that saw his max-contract dreams evaporate in just 12 months.

First, Thomas was traded by Boston to Cleveland without warning, dashing his developing life as a beloved and high-usage franchise face. Then, once he joined the Cavaliers, he battled a hip injury and fit questions alongside LeBron James. Then, without getting the chance to compete for a title, he was dealt to the lottery-bound Lakers at the trade deadline, promptly finding himself buried on the second unit. Finally, he entered the free-agency market and generated so little interest that he was forced to settle for a second-unit role and a bargain-basement deal with a non-marquee, non-playoff team.

Thomas’ contract is reportedly worth $2 million. He’s coming off a season in which he played in 15 games for the Cavaliers and in 17 games with the Lakers. He averaged 15 points per game in his 32 contests, far from the 29 points per game he averaged in the 2016-17 season as a member of the Celtics. Thomas has been dealing with the lingering effects from right hip surgery he underwent in 2017, as well as a torn labrum. He has yet to return to 100 percent health.

Lakers beat Cavaliers in double overtime to advance to second straight Summer League final

Josh Hart scored 37 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Lakers to a 112-109 double-overtime victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday in the semifinals of the NBA Summer League.
