2018 NBA Draft Trade Rumors: Knicks, Celtics Among Suitors for No. 4 Pick

The Memphis Grizzlies reportedly have nearly a quarter of the NBA interested in trading for the No. 4 overall pick.

According to ESPN.com's Jonathan Givony, the Grizzlies "are in discussions" about trading the No. 4 pick to the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks and Orlando Magic in advance of Thursday's NBA draft.

Givony added those clubs have shown "varying degrees of interest" and that the Grizzlies "don't anticipate the most serious proposals to arrive until they are actually on the clock and ready to make their pick."

NBA draft surprises: A Trae Young-Luka Doncic trade, and a long tumble for Michael Porter Jr.

NEW YORK — Entering this year’s NBA draft, the three names that carried the most intrigue were Luka Doncic, Trae Young and Michael Porter Jr. — a European star, a diminutive guard with lethal scoring ability, and a prospect with an extraordinary ceiling yet a short and injury-plagued history.

As the names started coming off the board at Barclays Center, two of these players were traded for each other and the third, Porter, just waited . . . and waited — until the 14th pick.

The first two picks in the draft went as expected — Deandre Ayton to the Phoenix Suns, and Marvin Bagley III to the Sacramento Kings. Then, the night’s first bit of drama. The Atlanta Hawks took Doncic, yet rumors swirled about a potential deal with the Dallas Mavericks. Moments later, the trade was announced — Doncic went to Dallas for Young, the fifth overall pick, along with a 2019 first-round pick that is protected for the first five selections.

NBA draft shows the jury's still out on power prep programs

... That concern is likely to grow if the NBA abolishes its one-and-done rule for the 2020 class. The logic is obvious. Top players feel they can get better by facing the tougher competition that these hoops finishing schools provide, both in practice and in their demanding schedules.

However, if you look at the impact of elite boarding schools that do not have fifth-year seniors or post-graduate players on the three most recent NBA drafts, they barely left a blip.

Of the 117 players who went to U.S. high schools who were taken in the past three NBA drafts, Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) has had three players taken (Harry Giles, Dwayne Bacon and Sindarius Thornwell) while Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.), and Huntington Prep (Huntington, W.Va.) have had two players selected.

That’s hardly a landslide because that means the other 110 draftees who attended U.S. high schools came from someplace else.
