This wild AAU buzzer-beater produced the best basketball finish of the year
The two best guards in America squared off at Peach Jam, but a wild finish stole the show.

Peach Jam is the biggest event in AAU shoe company-sponsored high school basketball. Nike’s end-of-season tournament regularly pulls most of the best recruits and every top college coach in America. The event started with a marquee matched on Wednesday night, with Cole Anthony’s PSA Cardinals taking on Tyrese Maxey’s Houston Hoops squad.

Anthony and Maxey are the two best guards in the country. Anthony (the son of former NBA veteran Greg Anthony) is currently ranked as the No. 3 player in the class by ESPN, with Duke and Oregon looking like the early favorites in his recruitment. Maxey is ranked No. 7 overall in ESPN’s rankings and has already accepted a scholarship to Kentucky.

This is the context you need to understand before you see how this game ended. Because this is one of the most thrilling finishes to a big-time basketball game at any level of the sport this year.

After winning Gold with Team last week, Isaiah Stewart (@Dreamville_33) set the tone in the paint on both ends of the floor and led @TheCityRocks to a win in their #PeachJam2018 opener. Symir Torrence (@EGB_ST4) was clutch down the stretch when it was needed most...

VIDEO: James Bouknight of the PSA Cardinals had a retro JaVale McGee-like block at Peach Jam

MacDuffie School (Mass.) forward James Bouknight, a four-star shooting guard for the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL circuit, came through with a defensive play that is far beyond the expectation for his position during Peach Jam action.

Bouknight, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard, found himself in the paint as an opposing guard went up for a would-be jam. The ball never got to the rim. Instead, it was Bouknight who elevated to simultaneously reject the ball right at the rim in an impressive display of athleticism and tenacity.

Peach Jam: AOT (Ga.) point guard Sharife Cooper (2020) overlooked and unfazed

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – It’s not that Sharife Cooper doesn’t care, it’s just that he simply gets it.

This spring and summer, Cooper has easily been one of the most productive players in any class on any circuit.

That much was evident when he was named Nike EYBL Offensive Player of the Year. The EYBL is widely regarded as the toughest of the three shoe circuits.

Cooper averaged 20.9 points, 6.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds & 1.4 steals and helped AOT (Ga.) post a 13-3 EYBL regular season record. AOT led the league in scoring (77.7 points per game)

Peach Jam: Scotty Pippen Jr. faces unreal pressure and he loves it

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – You’ll have to excuse Oakland Soldiers (Calif.) guard Scotty Pippen Jr. if he can’t sympathize with the droves of players who feel pressure to perform for the hundreds of coaches lining the sidelines at the Nike Peach Jam this week.

Pressure? Really?

Try playing in the shadow of a living legend your whole life as the son of six-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen.

“There’s way more pressure when you’re in my position,” Scotty Jr. said. “People expect more from me.”

2019 Mitch Doherty (BABC EYBL, MA) had a huge night (16 PTS, 8 AST, 5 REB) against The Family at the Peach Invitational.

Besides his nice touch, watch what a great passer he is. Some Larry Bird in there.
