Evans Seven: Predicting first coach to call top 2020 prospects June 15

College coaches will be able to start placing direct phone calls to juniors on June 15, which will be a day that many in the 2020 class remember for a long time. In this week’s Evans Seven, we predict which coach will be the first to call the top seven prospects in the 2020 rankings.

VIDEO: Watch Class of 2020 5-star Jalen Johnson snatch a shot right out of midair

We’re not sure what to accurately call this play. A block? A steal? Whatever it is, it showcases why Jalen Johnson is one of the nation’s most dominant basketball talents.

Johnson, a 5-star small forward to stands 6-foot-7, is one of the top recruits in the Class of 2020. A Wisconsin native, he stars for Sun Prairie but is currently training on the AAU circuit at the Nike Elite 100 camp. While there, he’s not accepting visitors into his squad’s paint. Like, at all.

Class of 2020 Standouts: Jalen Green and Kyree Walker

With sensational players like Zion Williamson, Cameron Reddish, R.J. Barrett and Bol Bol, the class of 2018 provided basketball fans with a wealth of talent. The class of 2019 is also primed to make a statement with dominant big men such as James Wiseman, Vernon Carey Jr. and Charles Bassey.

Looking ahead even further, the class of 2020 finds itself in a unique situation with the highly debated one-and-done rule possibly coming to an end in time for the 2020 NBA Draft.

Southern California played host to the adidas Gauntlet Regional Qualifiers and the Pangos All-American Camp during the last two weeks where some of the top players in the class of 2020 were on full display. Among them were Jalen Green from San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno and Kyree Walker from Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix.

Sophomore Walker garnering major attention in SEC and beyond

In our last rankings update for the 2020 class, we expanded the list out to include 100 prospects. One of the prospects we moved into the rankings was Jaden Walker, a 6-foot-4 guard out of Discovery High School in Lawrenceville, Ga. During his sophomore season this year, he started to show why he’s already on the radar of college coaches at the highest level.

Schools such as Florida, Georgia (visited on Wednesday), Georgia Tech, Louisville, Michigan, Tennessee and Xavier have already shown interest in the four-star prospect. It’s his ability to run the team as a point guard along with his ability to score playing off the ball that has coaches really intrigued. With his length and athleticism, he could become a high level defender if he commits to it.

Walker’s high school coach Cory Cason thinks his long term potential is through the roof.

Motivation Monday: Zaire Wade dishes on what fuels his fire

It’s the voice in your head that that tells you to push past seemingly impossible fatigue on the gridiron. It’s the thought that keeps your motor running at a supreme level on the hardwood.

It’s dreaming of getting your parents that new house. It’s retiring your grandmother. It’s simply wanting never to be picked last again.

Motivating factors in sports range from the simple to the simply inconceivable, but they’re all necessary to the development of elite talent.
