Next Stop D1

Trinity Catholic and Stamford Peace forward Cantavio Dutreil has had an amazing journey over the last few years alongside his teammate Dimitry Moise.

Three years ago, both lived in their native country of Haiti and didn't speak any English. They were discovered during a camp run by POWERforward, a global nonprofit organization that runs camps and educational programs in Haiti and has helped numerous Haitians find host families in the United States, and came to the United States as raw but talented 15 year olds.

The Stamford Advocate detailed the story of their arrival earlier this spring.

This vimeo video also tells the story of their journey to the United States.

Unsigned senior Both Gach down to three

There aren't many difference makers left in the class of 2018, but Both Gach just might be one of them and he's down to three schools.

A native of Minnesota who played his senior season at Phoenix (Ariz.) Compass Prep, the 6-foot-7 guard is down to a final three of San Diego State, Texas Tech and Utah.

Gach has been to all three campuses and all that is left for him to do is make a decision that should be coming sooner than later.

Zion Williamson Blog: Graduation, USA Basketball and prepping for Duke

If there were high school rankings for popularity, Zion Williamson would hold down the top spot in a landslide. His propensity for jaw-dropping plays and posterizing dunks has taken the country by storm. Williamson is the No. 2 overall player in the class of 2018 and has a resume that could hold up to any player in the country: Co-MVP of the NBPA Top 100 Camp, MVP of the Elite 24, Elite 24 slam dunk champ, three-straight state titles at Spartanburg Day School (Spartanburg, S.C.) and MVP of adidas Nations Global. Williamson, a Duke signee, has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a blog.

Report: 5-star 2019 PG Ashton Hagans on verge of reclassifying

It sure sounds like 5-star point guard Ashton Hagans will be a member of Kentucky’s Class of 2018 sooner rather than later.

As reported by SEC Country’s Kyle Tucker, Hagans has been working out with Class of 2018 McDonald’s All-American Kentucky commit E.J. Montgomery. While that may not be only due to the possibility they play together in the forthcoming season, it’s clear Hagans has been doing whatever he can to give himself the option of arriving in Lexington sooner rather than later.

Michigan locks up top-40 wing Jalen Wilson

Fresh off of its run to the national title game, Michigan used its recent on-the-floor success to land the commitment of top-40 wing Jalen Wilson. One of the most versatile wing prospects in America, Wilson selected the Wolverines on Wednesday night.

A 6-foot-8 wing who can complete a multitude of tasks on the playing floor, Wilson said a May unofficial visit to Ann Arbor played a big role in his decision.

“It was an amazing campus and the coaches are great,” he said. “They really want me to come in and be a wolf. That is what they say by being someone that comes in, leads the team, scores, plays on both ends and gets the offense the ball.”

Jordan Lathon's sudden Northwestern about face underscores difficulty of landing top talent at elite schools

Throughout recent years, the same college basketball super powers have boasted the top recruiting classes. Kentucky will remain an annual contender no matter who leaves for the NBA because Coach John Calipari has built a conveyor belt of talent in Lexington. In recent years, Duke has been even more successful under longtime head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

That was still the case with the Class of 2018 … with a wrinkle. Suddenly the smart guys could compete alongside the superpowers, including fellow smart guys Duke. Vanderbilt boasts one of the top Classes of 2018, even without Romeo Langford, and despite being a small group, Northwestern also boasted one of its top classes of all time, with multiple four-star recruits and a promising point guard named Jordan Lathon.
