and to mix it up on this thread: top players - NE products trim list

.... Here's a rundown of those in New England that have cut down their list so far:

Tremont Waters was the first major local product to officially trim his list. His announcement came via twitter just days after he led his Expressions squad to the quarterfinals of the Nike Peach Jam. Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Georgetown, Indiana, Connecticut and Yale made the final cut, although Kansas took a commitment from another point guard, Marcus Garrett, earlier this week so it remains to be seen if the Jayhawks are still in the running for his services;

Christian David missed his final summer on the grassroots circuit after tearing his ACL in the NEPSAC championship game. In the middle of July, he opted to reward the schools that had remained committed to recruiting him throughout the process. He named a final five of Miami, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Butler and Creighton. The 6-foot-7 Canadian native is expected to make a full recovery in time for his final season at Vermont Academy;

Walter Whyte announced earlier this week that he was cutting his list of 30 scholarship offers down to a "Final 12" that offers him a wide variety to choose from, ranging from the Atlantic 10 to the Ivy League and local New England schools all the way out to San Diego. His schools - St. Joseph's, Fordham, Northeastern, Davidson, Penn, Lehigh, St. Bonaventure, Brown, Davidson, Boston University, Yale and San Diego;

Introducing Simi Shittu
Simi Shittu 2018

Over the course of the next few weeks the New England Recruiting Report will be profiling some of the most notable prospects set to arrive in the region this fall as part of the incoming prep school class.

Earlier this week NERR contributors Luc Smith and Zack Sandberg released their updated list of prep school commitments, which now includes over 200 names. Perhaps the most well known name on that list was that of Simi Shittu, a 6-foot-8 forward who currently ranks #11 in the ESPN 60 of 2018.

Shittu will be be transferring out of Montverde Academy in Florida, where he helped lead the team to the 2016 Dick's High School National Championship, and joining Vermont Academy for the coming year.

Brewster Academy is preparing to welcome a host of new players to make up their 2016-2017 squad including local products like Makai Ashton-Langford and Aaron Wheeler.

Another name that local fans might be familiar with is Sidney Wilson, who will be joining the Bobcats' 2018 class.

Brewster: Michael Okauru commits to Florida

Brewster: Michael Okauru commits to Florida

.. Okauru is an athletic 6-foot-4 combo-guard who has a very high ceiling on both ends of the floor. He's shown flashes of being a big playmaking guard, has made notable improvements in his jump shot, and is undeniably talented on the defensive end as well as a good rebounding guard.

Allen Opts Out
Thomas Allen 2017

For the second time in as many weeks, one of the best players in New England has asked for a release from his National Letter of Intent.

Brewster Academy guard Thomas Allen, who signed with his hometown school N.C. State in November, requested his release on Thursday after meeting with new head coach Kevin Keatts.

Keatts was recently named the program's new head coach following the firing of Mark Gottfreid, who was the coach whom Allen had originally committed to.

Sidney Wilson Announces for St. John’s

... Brewster Academy senior forward Sidney Wilson announced his commitment to St. John's on Saturday night as a member of the 2017 class.

Wilson initially reclassified to 2018 upon arriving at Brewster Academy in the fall but announced he would explore a return to 2017 shortly after the April evaluation period.

He's since taken visits to both UConn and St. John's and had also scheduled a third visit to Texas prior scheduling his announcement.

Top-75 wing Sidney Wilson transfers to UConn

Just one week into his freshman year, four-star forward Sidney Wilson is transferring from St. John's to UConn. Wilson will apply to get a waiver to be able to play this season at UConn, but he may need to sit out as a transfer and wait until the 2018-19 season to play for the Huskies.

While the plans were for Wilson to return to New York City and play for St. John's after leaving home for a year of prep basketball, things were not meant to be.

“It was a difficult decision to leave St. John’s but this was best for Sid and his growth. Not just on the basketball court but mentally, as well. Being in the city was more of a burden, which was really the first reason why I moved him from out of it to Brewster. I kind of lost sight of it when he came back,” Sidney Wilson Sr. said.
