Can Crean get Ashton Hagans back in the fold at Georgia?

Ashton Hagans, the No. 6 player in the 2019 class, committed to Georgia back in December, but decided to open up his recruitment at the end of February when it started to appear that Mark Fox’s job was in jeopardy.

Georgia fired Fox one week ago and moved quickly to name Tom Crean the new head coach. As it turns out, Crean and Hagans already have a relationship going back to last summer.

“I like his coaching style,” Hagans said. “He coached us last summer at Adidas Nations. I liked his style. He was putting us through drills. He said I have everything else, but just needed to get my jump shot better. He was teaching us how to create space and worked with us on pick and rolls.”

Bertram exceeds expectations at VA

...Over the course of the season, Bertram received 11 offers from D-I schools, and his performance at HoopHall put him on other programs’ radar as well, he said.

Sienna College coach Jimmy Patsos had met with the Bertrams at a CCS practice on Nov. 21. Colgate University has been in constant contact too, the Bertrams said.

They visited Hofstra University last weekend, and Saint Joseph’s University made a home visit on Monday while Bertram is back for spring break.

In addition to those offers, George Mason University, Fordham University, Marist College, St. Bonaventure University, Manhattan College, Binghamton University and New Jersey Institute of Technology have all extended offers.

Davidson University, University of Vermont, University of Massachusetts, Stanford University, University of Tennessee, Georgia Tech University, Oklahoma University, Kansas State University and Ivy League schools including Columbia, Brown University, Dartmouth University, University of Pennsylvania and Yale University have shown interest too, Bertram said.

Four-star junior Tyreek Smith recaps winter visits

Four-star forward Tyreek Smith is one of the most athletic frontcourt players in the class of 2019. He's expanding his game and looking into the high major programs who are making him a priority.

A native of Baton Rouge, La., who ranks No. 76 overall in the class of 2019, Smith is now in the Dallas area where he plays at Trinity Christian. During his junior season, the 6-foot-8 Smith visited Baylor, LSU and Texas A&M while making a deep run in the state playoffs and looking to expand his game.

IN HIS OWN WORDS
"I've improved on a lot from the mental aspect to the physical aspect. We made it to the state championship and we lost but I learned a lot and I'm looking forward to improving a lot."

On Baylor: "It went well. I've been there before so I knew what to expect. The coaches are what stands out with them."

Texas A&M: "Me and coach Ulric Maligi are real cool. I've known him for a long time. All of the coaches there are cool. It feels nice when I'm on campus down there. I like Texas A&M."

LSU: "It was a nice visit and I got to see a lot of my family. They showed me a lot of love on campus so I like LSU, too."

@NERRHoops
Gould Academy duo sits atop Maine's 2019 class http://ow.ly/xanM30j7Ljp

“Big 3” atop Connecticut’s 2019 Class
Connecticut's junior class is led by a trio of frontcourt prospects who all project as consensus top 100 national prospects in Putnam Science Academy's Akok Akok, Loomis Chaffee's Jaiden Delaire, and Woodstock Academy's Tre Mitchell.

Akok holds down the top spot not just because of his unique talent but also because of just how well he fits the way the modern game is played. With conventional back-to-the-basket type bigs becoming more scarce, coaches at the college level and above are all searching for the rare big man who can both protect the rim defensively and stretch the floor offensively. Akok is the poster boy for such a description and his length, quick second bounce, and high release are only icing on the cake.
