COLBY WOMEN'S SOCCER OPENS SEASON WITH WIN OVER THOMAS

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Senior forward Catherine Fraser had a collegiate-high five points on the day with three goals and two assists and first-year Juliette Nadeau scored twice and dished an assist in Colby College's season-opening 8-0 win over Thomas College in non-conference women's soccer Wednesday.

Fraser scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal at 10:08 of the first half when she took a pass from Charlotte White and ripped a 20-yard blast into the upper right corner of the net. White had her first collegiate assist.

Fraser returned the favor just 2:39 later when her cross from the right side was headed in by White to the left corner for her first collegiate score. Fraser made it 3-0 when she stole a pass back to the goalkeeper from a defender and scored into a wide open net at 18:45.

Hannah Brozdowski put the Mules (1-0 overall) up 4-0 at 28:48 on Fraser's second assist of the night. With 10:34 left to halftime, Nadeau scored her first collegiate goal off a pass from Elizabeth Barry. The Mules took a 6-0 halftime lead when Olivia Greif scored off a dish from Nadeau.

Nadeau scored her second of the game on an 18-yard shot from the middle after taking a pass from Katherine Gillespie. Fraser closed out the scoring at 79:52 when she tapped in a shot after taking a pass from Greif on the right side.

Dani Lonati and Shannon Gray did not have to make a save to combine in goal for the shutout. The Mules had a 49-0 advantage in shots.

Kayla Gordon had a fine game in goal for Thomas (1-2 overall), stopping 21 shots.
