NESCAC honors Bates’ Pelletier

HADLEY, Mass. — For the second time this season, Bates College sophomore pitcher Kirsten Pelletier was named the NESCAC Pitcher of the Week.

Pelletier, of Sidney, tossed her second no-hitter of the season in a 10-0 win over Colby on Friday. She struck out 10 in that five-inning game.

The next day, she shut down the Mules again, going the distance for a complete-game shutout. That 1-0 victory was the Bobcats’ 20th of the season, the most in the program’s history.

For the week, Pelletier was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 12 innings, with 18 strikeouts only only two hits allowed.

The Bobcats (20-13) travel to Amherst for the NESCAC tournament. They open the single-elimination tournament against the host Mammoths (26-5). The tournament runs through Sunday.

Softball to play #22 Williams in NCAA Regional Round

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division III Softball Committee has announced the 62 teams that will compete in the Division III Softball Championship. Husson University, the 2018 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Champion, will take on #22 Williams College in the first game of the NCAA Regional Round.

Husson (21-13) claimed its eighth NAC Softball championship with a 4-1 win over New England College to earn the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Williams (35-6) won their conference, as well. The NESCAC champion will be hosting the Regional Round, which includes Husson, Western New England, and Tufts.

The regional round will be held May 11-13. Four teams will compete at 14 regional sites and three teams will compete at two regional sites. The team advancing from each regional will compete in the super regional round May 18 and 19. The finals, hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City All-Sports Association, will be held May 24-29 at USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. All rounds will use a double-elimination format.

Forty-two conferences received an automatic qualification (Pool A). One institution was selected from Pool B, which includes independent institutions and institutions from conferences that do not meet the automatic qualification criteria. The 19 remaining teams were selected on an at-large basis from automatic qualifying conferences and the remaining institutions in Pool B.
