BANGOR, Maine — Husson University Director of Athletics Frank Pergolizzi and Maine Maritime Academy Director of Athletics Steve Peed are pleased to announce that the two institutions have agreed to compete in the sport of football, beginning with a home-and-home series in 2021.

The Mariners will host the Eagles for the first-ever meeting on September 11, 2021 in Castine, Maine. The following year MMA will travel to Bangor, Maine, for a September 10 contest at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex on the campus of Husson University.

"We are very excited about initiating football competition with Maine Maritime Academy in 2021. This will be an exciting event for both institutions as well as great exposure for small college football in Maine" Pergolizzi comments.

"This is a great opportunity for student-athletes from both schools." said Peed. "We look forward to building an rivalry over the years".

The Eagles will open their 16th season on the road at Union on September 1st. The Mariners will start their 2018 season at home against SUNY Maritime on September 1st.

It was a magical 2017 campaign for @hussonfootball as it had the most wins and first playoff victory in program history. Despite losing several key pieces, including leading rusher John Smith, the expectations remain high for the Eagles: https://t.co/2ZYLLcx8xW4
