Husson's Smith Gets Weekly Gold Helmet Award

BANGOR, MAINE (WABI) - Weekly football honors don't get much bigger than what John Smith won today.

Smith rushed for a career-high and single-game school record 301 yards, and two touchdowns, on 39 carries to become the first Husson player in program history, and the first D-III player this fall, to gain more than 300 yards.

His career amazing so far, almost 57 hundred career yards. ... 15663.html

Bobcat Beat: Costa starting at QB against Williams

...Costa, from Westport, Massachusetts, took over at quarterback during the second quarter of last week’s 37-17 loss to Tufts and provided a spark that the Bobcats’ offense has lacked so far this season.

He turned a broken play into a 70-yard touchdown run — Bates’ first first-half touchdown of 2017 — and in the third quarter got the Bobcats within 13 points, 30-17, heading into the fourth quarter, which is by far the closest they have been through three games.

Costa made plays on fourth down, moved the ball with his legs and, in general, opened up the offense. He gained 97 yards on 16 carries and completed 14 of 33 passes for 134 yards. Those passing numbers would have been even better if not for several dropped passes in the fourth quarter. ... ms/2210906

Bowdoin Football Falls In Week Four Clash at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Tufts University football team kept Bowdoin out of the endzone for the first time this season in a 31-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at Zinman Field.

The Jumbos improved to 3-1 while gaining 462 total yards and allowing just 216. The Polar Bears, led by 109 yards rushing from sophomore halfback Nate Richam, fell to 0-4.

Game Highlights

Bowdoin hung with the Jumbos in the opening half, trading field goals early thanks to a 30-yarder from Andrew Sisti early in the second quarter.
Tufts scored a pair of late touchdowns before halftime, however, as Ryan McDonald ran for a 14-yard score and tossed to Dan de Leon for a 22-yard strike to make it 17-3 Tufts at the break.
The Jumbos added a score in the third quarter and in the fourth quarter to make it a 31-3 final score.
