BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Colby College's Jamie Pine fell 7-5, 7-5 at fifth singles in the closest match of the day for the Mules in a 9-0 loss to fourth-ranked Bowdoin College on Sunday in NESCAC women's tennis

Colby drops to 6-3 overall heading into Thursday's 4 p.m. match with Husson University.

COLBY MEN'S TENNIS NOW 29TH IN NATIONAL RANKINGS

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Colby College men's tennis team is ranked 29th in the country in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III rankings.

The Mules moved up eight spots from the last ranking of 37th. Colby also is ranked 10th in the tough ITA Northeast Region.

Vlad Murad is 27th nationally in singles play and he and doubles partner Carl Reid are ranked 22nd in the country. Murad is sixth in singles in the Northeast and Reid is 10th, while the duo is 10th in doubles play.

Colby has a big match Wednesday at 4 p.m. at 40th-ranked Bates College.

NO. 29 COLBY MEN'S TENNIS DROPS MATCH

LEWISTON, Maine -- Vlad Murad fought back for a win at second singles for the 29th-ranked Colby College men's tennis team in a 7-2 loss at 40th-ranked Bates College on Wednesday.

The Bobcats took two of the three doubles matches to get out to an early lead in the match. Zale Shah and Scott Altmeyer won 8-3 at third doubles for Colby.

Murad had a tough match against second singles player Chris Ellis and fell 7-6 in the opening set. However, the Colby senior pulled out back-to-back 6-4 victories to earn the match.

COLBY WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS HUSSON

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Hania Lenderking won her first match of the spring season and the Colby College women's tennis team did not give up a game in doubles in a 9-0 non-conference win over Husson University on Thursday.

Colby, ranked 16th in the Northeast Region, improved to 7-3 overall. The Mules play Saturday at Connecticut College at 1 p.m. Husson, playing its only match of the spring, finished the year at 8-4.

Lenderking was down 5-2 in the opening set before battling back for a 7-5, 6-1 victory at sixth singles.

After the 8-0 wins in the doubles matches, Colby's top five singles players only lost three games. Gabriela Venditti improved to a team-best 7-3 in dual meet matches.
