Husson U's men & women open NAC season with wins over St. J

The University of Husson's men's hoop team raced by the Monks of St. Joseph in a NAC opener with a 75-54 win and the women won their NAC opener over the St. Joe's women 77-50 at Newman Gym.

The Eagle's men raced to a 34-19 half-time lead and then out scored the Monk's 41 to 35 in the second half.

Husson shot 26 for 63 for 41.3% from the floor and St. Joe's were held to just 18 of 65 for just 27.7%.

Husson shot 32% from 3 point land on 10 for 3 while holding St. Joe's to just 6 for 26 for 23.1%/

Husson was 68.4% from the charity stripe on 13 for 19 and the Monk's bested the Eagles from the line on 12 for 14 for 86.7%

Husson out rebounded the Monks 41 to 33, Husson committed 10 turnovers and had 14 assists to the visitors 12 TO's and 9 assists.

UMaine D-1 transfer Mitch Worcester lead the Eagles with 22 points on 6 for 11 from the floor for 54.5%, was 4 for 6 from beyond the arc for 66.7% and a perfect 6-6 from the line.

Alonzo McCain was the only other Eagle in double figures with an even dozen. The only St. Joe's player in double figures was Marco Nery with 11 points.

Husson's defense was a big factor in the game.

The Husson Women also used their defense to run by the women from St. Joseph's 77 to 50.

Husson was up 22-7 at the end of the first quarter. extended their half-time lead to 44-23 and continued the scoring outbreak by leading 61-37 at the end of 3.

The Husson women were 30 for 70 from the floor for 42.7% and held the St. Joe's Five to 17 out of 52 for 32.7%.

Husson was 8 for 24 for 3's for 33.0% and held their opponents to just 4 of 21 for 19.0%.

From the line Husson went 9-16 for 56.3% to St. Joseph's 12 for 19 for 62.7%

Husson had 11 turnovers. St. Joe's 16.

Husson had 19 assists and held St. Joe's to just 4 assists.

Husson out rebounded St. Joseph's 48 to 26.

Darla Morales lead Husson with 21 points and Kenzie Worcester had 19 points.

Regan McFerran had 11 points to lead St. Josephs.

It was outstanding defense that won the game for the Husson women.

Both Husson teams defenses were excellent as demonstrated by their defensive statistics.
