COLBY: SAYRE FINISHES CAREER WITH 139 POINTS AFTER LOSS TO BOBCATS

LEWISTON, Maine -- Colby College co-captain Austin Sayre finished his career with 143 points after scoring twice and dishing two assists in a 24-10 loss to Bates College on Wednesday.

The Mules closed out the season at 3-11 overall and 2-8 in the NESCAC. Bates improves to 13-0 overall and went 10-0 in the conference.

Sayre ranks fourth all-time in goal scoring (105) and is one of seven Colby men's lacrosse players to score 100 goals or more. He also had 34 career assists. Sayre did all that despite missing about half of his junior season due to injury.

Colby was able to stay in the game for most of the opening quarter after Bates scored four goals in a span of 3 minutes, 14 seconds to start the contest. Tucker Dietrick scored from Sayre for the Mules' first goal and Colton Michel tallied from Don Vivian to cut the lead to 4-2.

The Bobcats scored the next two goals to up 6-2. The Mules bounced back with a score from C.J. Hassan with 2:35 left in the first quarter. The Bobcats scored the final two goals for an 8-3 lead after one quarter.

The Bobcats scored four of the opening five goals of the second quarter for a 12-4 margin. Sayre scored his first goal from Vivian for the Mules' goal. Colby made it 12-6 on back-to-back goals from Sayre on the man-up and Hassan.

Bates scored the final two goals for a 14-6 lead at intermission and then went on a 5-0 scoring run to begin the third quarter.

Kevin Seiler had two goals in the second half for the Mules. He finished his career with 84 goals and 15 assists for 99 points. Andrew Ward and Colton Michel had the other goals for Colby.

C.J. Layton finished his season with 15 saves for the Mules. Layton stopped 189 shots this year and had a fine 55.8 save percentage.

Sean Dougherty had three ground balls and one caused turnover in his final Colby game. Will Erwin and Brad McCarthy also had three ground balls.
