COLBY: FIELD HOCKEY PLAYERS EARN ACADEMIC HONORS

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Danielle Smith and Erika Smith each were recognized as National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Scholars of Distinction.

The Smith sisters also were two of 13 Colby players to be named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The entire Colby field hockey squad earned the NFHCA National Academic Team Award.

Danielle Smith and Erika Smith earned the Scholar of Distinction honor for achieving a grade point average of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.

McKayla Blanch, Tori Brown, Kate Burkett, Sarah Gaffney, Hannah Hearn, Kaleigh Hoffman, Meredith Keenan, Rebecca Moore, Aria Nicoletti, Kat Restrepo, and Maddie Schoeni were honored with the Smith sisters for earning National Academic Squad honors. Student-athletes with a grade point average of at least 3.30 or better through the first semester were honored.

The National Team Academic Award is for institutions with a minimum team grade point average of 3.00.

Kain and Royer Selected as ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Eagles' Libby Kain and Sadie Royer have been recognized as 2016 Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Scholars of Distinction.

A total of 211 student-athletes representing 103 different schools were recognized as Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars. To be awarded this honor, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point avaerage (GPA) of 3.90 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year

Kain is a senior from Dexter, Maine who started and played in 15 games for the Eagles this past year in her third season. She scored three goals and dished out four assists on the season. Kain will be graduating with a degree in Psychology.

Royer is in her sophomore year from Greene, Maine, and played 13 games in her first season playing field hockey as an Eagle. Throughout the past season, she scored two goals. Royer is studying Business Administration at Husson.
