BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University football program has officially opened their preseason camp Sunday evening August 14, almost three weeks prior to traveling to Alfred (N.Y.) in their season opener.

Earlier this summer, Price and his coaching staff announced his captains for the 2016 season. John Smith, Ellis Throckmorton, and Rick Orio will step on the field as leaders for the Eagles. Orio and Throckmorton will both be entering their senior year, while Smith will represent as the junior captain for the season.

The Eagles finished their 2015 season 7-3 overall and 6-1 in conference. They fell to Salve Regina in the ECAC Clayton Chapman Bowl Championship. The Eagles first home game will feature a match-up with Dean College on Friday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m at the John Winkin Sports Complex.

Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Releases New Logo

MARSHFIELD, Mass. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) has formally released the conference's new logo, the first step in a broader rebrand of the conference.

"The ECFC is excited for its new look and is extremely satisfied with the outcome of the design process," said Commissioner Katie Boldvich. "The new mark is a great step forward for the conference as the league moves toward building a stronger identity."

The league's Athletic Directors selected the logo from several other designs with input from member coaches and sports information directors.

"We are all very excited to unveil a new logo as we prepare for another great season of ECFC football," added ECFC Director's Chair & Mount Ida College Athletic Director Matt Burke. "Our league continues to grow and this logo is another step in the process as we build our brand and league recognition."

"I'd like to thank all of our league Directors for their guidance as well as our Coaches and Sports Information Directors for their collaboration with this project," said Boldvich. "I would also like to give a special thanks to Russell Brennen of Brennen Creative who provided our group with first-rate design options and service throughout the process."

In addition to the new logo, the ECFC's conference website is also being revamped to provide a more modern and sleek design. The new look will give the league's Players of the Week more prominence and also have a greater focus on social media and video. The new website will launch prior to kick-off.

Anna Maria College will be the first ECFC conference member to kickoff the 2016 season as they welcome the United States Coast Guard Academy to AMCAT Field on Thursday, September 2.

Mariners Picked Seventh in NEFC

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy was picked to finish seventh among the New England Football Conference's (NEFC) eight teams by the league's head coaches. The preseason poll was released on Monday with defending champion, Western New England University, sitting at the top of the poll.

"We are off to a good start in the preseason," said Maine Maritime Academy Head Coach Chris McKenney, "We don't concern ourselves with rankings and polls, we know that we play in a tough conference where you must play well every weekend. The players and coaches are excited about the upcoming season and we look forward to the challenges and opportunities of this final season in the NEFC."

Maine Maritime posted a 3-6 record in 2014 with a 2-5 mark in the NEFC. The Mariners return James Ferrar (Cumberland, Maine), a 2015 ECAC Division III Football North All-Star and NEFC Offensive First Team selection, as well as Christopher Ford (Pembroke, N.H.), a NEFC Defensive Second Team selection.

The Golden Bears, who won their second Conference championship in program history in 2015, received first place votes from five of the eight Conference coaches, a second place nod and a fifth place pick. WNE won its first 10 games in 2015 before losing in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament First Round.

Salve Regina University, which finished tied with Endicott College for second place in 2015 when each had a 5-2 NEFC record, was slotted for that same position in the poll. Salve Regina got two first place votes, five second place nods, and a selection for fourth. The Seahawks' rallied from a 21 point halftime deficit in the NEFC championship game, only to see WNE score with four seconds remaining to take the title.

Endicott finished in third place. Every coach in the Conference had Endicott ranked in his top four selections, including one first place vote.

Curry College (3-4 NEFC record in 2015) and MIT (2-5 in 2015 NEFC play) finished tied for fourth.

Rounding out the poll were the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in sixth place and Nichols College in the eighth position.

Rank College Points*
1. Western New England 59 (5)
2. Salve Regina 56 (2)
3. Endicott College 50 (1)
4. Curry College 31
MIT 31
6. U.S. Coast Guard Academy 30
7. Maine Maritime Academy 20
8. Nichols College 12
*Points are awarded based on position selected in the poll. A first place vote is awarded eight points, a second place vote is seven points, etc...

The NEFC will begin 2016 play the Thursday prior to Labor Day weekend as the Coast Guard Academy travels to Anna Maria College that evening with all seven other Conference teams in action that weekend against non-conference foes. League games begin the weekend of September 24. The NEFC will "go dark" Columbus Day weekend with all eight teams having a bye.

Colby: Hurdle-Price named to preseason All-American team

WATERVILLE, Maine — Colby College co-captain Jabari Hurdle-Price (Bronx, N.Y./Fieldston School), one of the top running backs in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, was named to the Football Gameplan Preseason Division III All-American Team on Thursday.

Hurdle-Price was selected to the third team offense as an all-purpose player. There were 85 players in NCAA Division III football selected to the three teams.

Hurdle-Price earned NESCAC First Team honors last year. He was first in the conference in all-purpose yards (153.8) and second in rushing yards per game (91.0). Hurdle-Price also caught 30 passes for 205 yards and had six rushing touchdowns.

Despite seeing limited time as a first-year, Hurdle-Price has 1,268 rushing yards, 350 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns in three seasons.

Hurdle-Price was one of only two NESCAC players to make the All-American team. Tim Preston, a defensive back from Tufts University, also made the third team.
