COLBY MEN'S SOCCER EARNS 1-0 WIN OVER UNE

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Colby College men's soccer team went on top in the first eight minutes of the game and held University of New England scoreless the rest of the way in a 1-0 non-conference victory Tuesday night at Harold Alfond Stadium.

The Mules improve to 4-6-2 heading into a game at 11th-ranked Amherst College on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The Nor'easters drop to 2-8-4 and will play host to Nichols College on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Colby dominated the opening half and had major advantages in shots (11-0) and corner kicks (6-2).

Kyle Douglas scored his second goal of the season on a nice feed from Brandon Fahlberg at 7:58 of the contest. Fahlberg pushed a pass forward to Douglas, who used his speed to get a step on the defender and ripped a low shot into the left corner of the goal.

Colby's Wyett MacDonald hit the crossbar on a one-timer shot with 7:50 left in the opening half.

The Nor'easters put some pressure on in the opening 20 minutes of the second half. The Mules finished with a 20-6 shot advantage and a 7-3 margin in corner kicks.

Colby goalkeeper Stanley Clarke had make two saves for his first collegiate shutout. Nate Delesdernier played the opening half and stopped three shots for UNE. Tom Benoit came in for the final 45 minutes and made one save.
