NO. 16 HAMILTON WOMEN'S LACROSSE BEATS NO. 18 COLBY, 8-5

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The 18th-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team had a 3-0 lead in the first half only to have 16th-ranked Hamilton College put together a big second half in an 8-5 victory on Sunday at Bowdoin College.

Madeleine Hatch had a pair of goals to lead Colby.

Casey File led the Continentals with three goals, while Kara Pooley, Darby Philbrick, Nora Klemmer, and Morgan Fletcher all had one goal and one assist.

The Mules (0-1 overall, 0-1 NESCAC) only had 10 shots in the game, but managed to score on their first three of the contest

Hamilton scored three man-up goals in the second half after Colby took a 3-1 lead into halftime. The Continentals used a 7-2 advantage in draw controls in the final 30 minutes to earn key possessions.

Emma Banks scored her first collegiate goal for Colby on a free-position shot just 1:36 into the game. Hatch scored the first of her two goals when she cut to the goal and took a nice feed from Kendall Smith for a 2-0 lead with 18:16 remaining. Kelsey Bowen added another free-position goal for Colby with 15:49 to go.

Hamilton took a little momentum into the second half when File scored with 7:08 to intermission. The Continentals had a long possession and were rewarded when Klemmer's pass to a cutting File produced their first goal.

Hamilton (1-0 overall, 1-0 NESCAC) scored three goals in a span of 1:37 early in the second half to take control. File scored her second straight goal with 26:11 remaining when she took a pass inside, pivoted to create space, and scored.

Klemmer scored unassisted when she came in hard around the net on the left side and scored on a tough angle to tie it at 3-3 just 21 seconds after File's goal. Pooley ended the 3-0 scoring run with a free-position goal to give Hamilton the lead for good.

Colby goalie Izzy Scribano made a nice save on Philbrick 30 seconds later to keep it at 4-3. However, File scored her third of the game when she cut across the goal, took a feed from Philbrick, and scored as she turned.

Tatiana Bradley went to the lower right corner on her free-position shot with 14:41 to play for a man-up goal and a 6-3 lead. Philbrick scored an important goal with 6:26 remaining when Pooley found her alone at the left post for the goal.

Colby did score two straight goals to cut the margin to 7-5 with 1:04 to play. Perticone came from around the net and scored on a difficult angle on the right side. Hatch scored her second goal with 1:04 remaining.

Fletcher closed out the scoring when she tallied into an empty net, with Scribano was out trying to create a turnover with 11 seconds remaining.

Hannah Burrall played the first half for Hamilton and made two saves, while Hannah Rubin stopped two shots in the second half. Scribano made eight saves for the Mules.

The game was played at Bowdoin because of temperature conditions at Colby on a cold and windy day in Maine.

Banks scored her second of the season for a 4-2 lead and was followed by three straight goals from Smith, Murtha, and Crowell for a 7-2 lead.

Endicott, after going nearly 16 minutes without a goal, scored with 1:34 to play to make it a 7-3 game at halftime.

Colby came out strong and took over the contest in the first eight minutes of the second half. Murtha scored on a free-position shot and Perticone scored three straight goals to push the margin to 11-3. Crowell added her second goal and Smith got her fourth to close out the scoring.

Emilie Klein had an assist, two caused turnovers, one draw control, and one ground ball for the Mules. Madeleine Hatch added two draw controls, Jackie Brokaw had a team-best three ground balls, and Gemma Bready had two ground balls and one draw control.
