COLBY: WOMEN'S LACROSSE UP TO FIFTH IN IWLCA NATIONAL POLL

WATERVILLE, Maine -- After starting the first game of the season ranked 18th nationally, the Colby College women's lacrosse team is ranked fifth in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll.

The Mules (13-3 overall) have won 11 straight games heading into Saturday's noon showdown at sixth-ranked Middlebury College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference semifinal. Hamilton College and Trinity College play in the other semifinal at 2:30 p.m., with the championship game set for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Middlebury.

The Mules have the highest ranking of the other NESCAC Final Four teams, but all the teams tied at 8-2 during the regular season. In tie-breakers, Colby came out with the fourth seed and Middlebury was first.

The Panthers (13-3) are the defending national and league champions, but Colby took a 10-7 home win during this year's regular season. The two teams have combined for 10 of the 16 league titles since the playoff system was put in place by the NESCAC in the 2000-2001 academic year. The Panthers have eight championships and the Mules won titles in 2008 and 2009.
