FOUR TOP-10 FINISHES FOR COLBY NORDIC SKIERS

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Zane Fields and Silas Eastman had top-10 finishes for the Colby College men's Nordic ski team, while Amy Bianco and Olivia Amber did the same for the women at the St. Lawrence Carnival on Saturday.

Fields had a time of 28 minutes, 39.0 seconds in the 10-kilometer free skate to take fifth place overall. Eastman was seventh in 28:46.0 to help the Colby men finish in third place with 99 points. The Mules were just one point out of second place and beat the other four NESCAC schools.

"This was a really great way to start the carnival season. Today's skate race is an NCAA qualifier and we had four skiers get themselves a good start to that qualification process," Colby head coach Tracey Cote said. "Anytime you have a team finish on the podium, especially one point out of second, it's a highlight. Both men's and women's teams had really great team finishes."

Ian Liphart took 30th place in 30:39.4 and Colby teammate Carter Hall ended a fine opening weekend by taking 33rd in 30:48.1

Bianco took sixth for the women's team in a time of 15:01.7 in the 5K race and Amber was three places back in ninth at 15:22.0. The pair helped Colby finish fourth overall with 86 points and the Mules were the top NESCAC finisher.

COLBY: HASKELL FINISHES SIXTH IN SLALOM FOR WOMEN'S ALPINE TEAM

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Despite missing Friday's opener due to injury, Colby College's Mardi Haskell put on the skis Saturday and finished sixth in the slalom at the St. Lawrence Carnival at Whiteface Mountain.

Haskell had runs of 51.65 and 49.23 for a two-run total time of 1:40.88. Her second run was the fourth overall. Haskell helped the women's team finish fourth with 79 points.

"Mardi has been dealing with an injury for the past three weeks, with a low point only a few days ago," Colby head coach Danny Noyes said. "Stepping in today even though she wasn't feeling her best helped the women finish fourth instead of ninth."

Mule first-year Sandra Schoepke had a top-20 finish by taking 17th with a two-run total time of 1:44.58. Ryanne Daley was 26th in 1:47.52.

Max Richard earned a top-20 finish by taking 18th place in 1:32.63 in his two runs. The men's team placed seventh overall.
