COLBY MEN'S SWIM TEAM HAS SOLID START BEHIND DIVERS

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Colby College divers John Pintauro and Travers Losert both finished in the top eight and Carter Garfield had a strong night at the NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at Wesleyan University.

The Mules are off to a solid start, placing seventh with 200 points. Colby is ahead of Trinity College, Wesleyan, Middlebury College, and Hamilton College.

Pintauro and Losert combined for 46 points in the 1-meter diving competition. Pintauro placed sixth with 371.75 points and Losert had 350.85 points for eighth place.

Garfield placed 10th in the 50 breaststroke (26.12) and won the pre-consolation final in taking 17th in the 200 individual medley (1:54.28). Garfield's time in the 200 IM was better than the 10th place swimmer (1:54.69) in the consolation final. Hugh Jacobsen took 22nd place in the 200 IM (1:57.86).

John Blackburn was 15th for the Mules in the 50 freestyle (21.55, 21.34 prelim), while Xander Geiersbach placed 17th and won the pre-consolation final in the 50 backstroke (24.01).

Matt Jones took 21st place in the 50 butterfly (23.50) and helped the 200 freestyle relay team of Jacob Tower, John Devine, and Blackburn place ninth in 1:25.43.

Colby's 400 medley relay team of Geiersbach, Garfield, Gavin Blake, and Kyle Wong took ninth place in 3:29.05.

COLBY MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING SCORES NEARLY 100 POINTS MORE AT NESCAC MEET

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. --- The Colby College men's swimming and diving team moved up one place and scored 96 more points than a year ago after the final day of the NESCAC Championships on Sunday at Wesleyan University.

The Mules had 462 points to take 10th place and finish just seven points out of ninth place.

John Pintauro made the championship final in 3-meter diving and took eighth place with 356.50 points, while fellow diver Travers Losert was 10th with 326.35 points.

Xander Geiersbach and John Blackburn both had 16th-place performances. Geiersbach had a 1:53.08 in a preliminary race in the 200 backstroke, while Blackburn also was faster in the 100 freestyle prelim (46.70).

Harris Kim placed 22nd for the Mules in the 200 butterfly (2:00.59).

Colby's 400 freestyle relay team of Kyle Wong, Carter Garfield, Jacob Tower, and Blackburn took 10th place in 3:08.48.

Williams College won the men's meet with 1,671 points and was followed by Amherst College (1,402), Tufts University (1,391), Connecticut College (1,331), Bates College (997.5), Bowdoin College (856), Trinity College (617), Middlebury College (576.5), Wesleyan (469), Colby (462), and Hamilton College (332).
