GEIERSBACH LEADS COLBY MEN'S SWIM TEAM IN LOSS TO BATES

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Xander Geiersbach had an individual win, helped a relay team to a victory, and had two second-place finishes for the Colby College men's swimming and diving team in a 163-125 loss to Bates College on Saturday.

The Mules, despite the loss, were leading midway through the meet. Colby fell 199-93 to the Bobcats last year.

Geiersbach won the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.88) and placed second in both the 100 backstroke (55.10) and the 200 backstroke (1:58.09). The Colby first-year also swam the lead leg and joined forces with John Devine, Gavin Blake, and John Blackburn for a winning time of 1:40.67 in the 200 medley relay.

Wyatt Fritz, another first-year for the Mules, won the 1,000 freestyle by nearly 10 seconds in a time of 10:21.93. Blakburn took the 50 freestyle in 22.50, Kyle Wong won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.97), Travers Losert took the 1-meter diving event with 220.10 points, and John Pintauro had 204.65 points to take the 3-meter event.

Harris Kim had runner-up finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:00.55) and the 100 butterfly (54.82).

TAYLOR-ROTH, ARMILLEI WIN EVENTS FOR COLBY WOMEN'S SWIM TEAM

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Abigail Taylor-Roth and Maria Armillei both had victories for the Colby College women's swimming and diving team in a 182.5-93.5 loss to Bates College on Saturday.

Taylor-Roth had one of the best races of the day with her winning time of 2:01.54 in the 200 freestyle. She narrowly beat Julia Smachlo (2:01.55) of Bates at the wall. Meanwhile, Armillei clocked a 56.88 in taking the 100 freestyle.

Taylor-Roth also took a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:21.83) and Armillei finished second in the 50 freestyle (25.52).

Katie Discipio was second in the 500 freestyle (5:32.60), Georganna Benedetto finished runner-up in the 1,000 freestyle (11:40.28), Kirsten Johnston had 168.70 points in taking second on the 1-meter diving board, and Alicia Elliott was second on the 3-meter board (164.20).

GARFIELD HAS SCHOOL RECORD FOR COLBY MEN'S SWIM TEAM

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Carter Garfield set a school record in the 100-yard individual medley for the Colby College men's swimming and diving team in a meet with Wesleyan University, Trinity College, and Bowdoin College on Friday and Saturday.

The Mules took a 199-160 win over Wesleyan and fell 198-153 to Trinity.

Garfield had a time of 54.07 to break the old record of 54.10 set by Jeff McCloskey in 2000. Garfield finished in second place in the 100 IM race. He also took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.16) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (48.76).

Travers Losert took second place in 1-meter diving (216.20) and teammate John Pintauro was just behind in third with 216.00. Pintauro took third on the 3-meter board (193.05) and Losert was fourth with 192.25 points.

Kyle Wong had thirds for the Mules in the 50 breaststroke (28.72) and the 200 breaststroke (2:20.26). Xander Geiersbach added a third in the 50 backstroke (25.91).

Matt Jones, Garfield, Gavin Blake, and John Blackburn placed third in the 200 medley relay (1:39.42).

Fourth-place finishes went to Blake in the 50 butterfly (24.55), Jones in the 50 backstroke (26.07) and 100 backstroke (57.15), Blackburn with a 22.61 in the 50 freestyle, Hugh Jacobsen in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.51), and Harris Kim with a 2:01.91 in the 200 butterfly.

CIMINI SWIMS TO THREE SOLID FINISHES FOR MULES

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Catherine Cimini had three finishes in the top-four for the Colby College women's swimming and diving team in racing against Trinity College, Wesleyan University and Bowdoin College on Friday and Saturday.

Cimini placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.68), third in the 50 butterfly (27.68), and fourth in the 100 freestyle (55.74).

The Mules took a 207-145 win against Trinity and lost 239.5-124.5 to Wesleyan. Colby will swim in a dual meet at Bowdoin next Saturday at noon.

Cimini also helped two relay teams to third-place finishes. She teamed with Olivia Hammer-Grant, Emily Ambeliotis, and Maria Armillei for a time of 1:42.76 in the 200 freestyle relay. Cimini also joined forces with Ambeliotis, Eliza Baker-Wacks, and Armillei for a 1:54.67 in the 200 medley relay.

The Mules had fourth-place finishes from Baker-Wacks in the 50 breaststroke (33.16) and 200 breaststroke (2:42.53), Kitty Elwyn with a 11:26.43 in the 1000 freestyle, Armillei in the 200 freestyle (2:04.47), and Madi Keohane in the 200 backstroke (2:14.89).
