LEWISTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington baseball (12-11) was held to one base hit in a 6-0 non-conference shutout on Tuesday afternoon at Bates College (10-12).

Nick Attaliades-Ryan (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford) came through with UMF’s lone hit in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Attaliades-Ryan found a hole in the Bobcats’ defense but the Beavers’ offense could not drive him home for a run.

In the bottom of the fifth, Bates produced the game’s first offensive score with six runs on six hits. Bates started the inning off with a single but Neal got two quick outs. The Bobcats answered with four straight hits, including a two-run double, a triple, a a two-run home run.

The Beavers had a chance to blemish the shutout in the top of the ninth inning when Chad Snowman (Dixfield, Maine/Dirigo) reached after getting hit by a pitch. Snowman advanced to second on a passed ball but was left stranded to end the game.

Neal had a solid outing before running into trouble in the fifth inning. UMF’s relief pitching did its job by only allowing one hit in 2 1/3 innings.
