LEWISTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington baseball (12-11) was held to one base hit in a 6-0 non-conference shutout on Tuesday afternoon at Bates College (10-12).

Nick Attaliades-Ryan (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford) came through with UMF’s lone hit in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Attaliades-Ryan found a hole in the Bobcats’ defense but the Beavers’ offense could not drive him home for a run.

UMF starter Jimmy Neal (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) prevented Bates from building any momentum as the senior held the Bobcats to only two total hits through the first four innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Bates produced the game’s first offensive score with six runs on six hits. Bates started the inning off with a single but Neal got two quick outs. The Bobcats answered with four straight hits, including a two-run double, a triple, a a two-run home run.

The Beavers had a chance to blemish the shutout in the top of the ninth inning when Chad Snowman (Dixfield, Maine/Dirigo) reached after getting hit by a pitch. Snowman advanced to second on a passed ball but was left stranded to end the game.

Neal had a solid outing before running into trouble in the fifth inning. UMF’s relief pitching did its job by only allowing one hit in 2 1/3 innings.

UMaine-Farmington gets back into the swing of conference play on Wednesday with a visit from Thomas College.
