MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Colby College women's tennis team started a busy weekend with a 9-0 loss at 14th-ranked Tufts University on Friday.

The Mules, who play at Trinity College on Saturday, fell to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in the NESCAC. Tufts moved to 5-1 and 1-0 in the conference.

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Maddie Lupone helped the Colby College women's tennis team to the 10th victory of the year in a 9-0 win over Husson University on Saturday.

The Mules are 10-3 overall heading into Sunday's 10 a.m. match with Hamilton College. Husson, which played a full fall schedule, dropped to 7-4 overall.

Senior captain Holly Bogo was a winner at second singles for the Mules. Jamie Pine, Katie Ryan, Olivia Stein, and Annie Morris also had straight set singles victories.

Lydia Venditti and Gabriela Venditti took an 8-0 win at first doubles. Bogo and Pine combined to win at the second spot, while Lupone teamed with Aleks Piibe to win at three.

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College two-time All-American Carl Reid won the toughest match of the day at first singles in leading the men's tennis team to a 9-0 win over Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday.

Reid took a 7-5, 6-3 win over Gustav Jigrup. He also teamed with Vlad Murad for an 8-0 victory at first doubles.

Murad, Shaw Speer, Jeremy Mendoza, Douglas Mo, and Alex Thrane also had straight set singles wins. Speer joined forces with Mark HoSang for a win at second doubles, while Mendoza and Matt Martin won at the third spot.

Ellis wins at second singles as No. 22 men's tennis falls to No. 8 Amherst

LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 22 nationally ranked Bates men's tennis team fell 8-1 to No. 8 Amherst in a NESCAC match on Saturday at the Wallach Tennis Center, scoring its lone point with junior Chris Ellis's win at No. 2 singles.

Ellis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) battled with Michael Solimano at second singles, taking the third-set tiebreaker 11-9 after Solimano had evened the match with a tiebreaker win in the second set.

Bates sophomore Ben Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) took Anton Zykov to three sets at No. 1 singles in a narrow loss.

Amherst (12-4, 3-1 NESCAC) assumed a 3-0 lead at the conclusion of doubles play, with Zykov and Andrew Yaraghi scoring a 9-8 (6) win over Bates juniors Fergus Scott (Wellington, New Zealand) and Pat Ordway (Falmouth, Maine). Ellis and Rosen fell 8-5 to Aaron Revzin and Solimano at first doubles. At No. 3, Ben Fife and Zach Bessette defeated Bates junior Josh Leiner (Baltimore, Md.) and first-year Josh Quijano (Los Angeles, Calif.) 8-1.

At No. 6 singles, Quijano was swept in the first set by Justin Sun but took him to a tiebreaker in the second set.

Bates (5-6, 1-2 NESCAC) returns to action on Sunday, April 17 at home against Connecticut College.

GORHAM, Maine -- Douglas Mo won at second singles and senior co-captain Brad Gaffin was a winner at singles and doubles for the Colby College men's tennis team in a 6-3 win over University of Southern Maine on Sunday.

Mo split sets with Kyle Curley before taking a 12-10 victory in a pro-set.

Gaffin did not lose a game in his two victories, earning a 6-0, 6-0 singles win at the sixth spot. He teamed with Jeremy Mendoza for an 8-0 win at third doubles.

Alex Thrane, Nam Le, and Sam Hoenig also won singles matches for the Mules (5-12 overall).
