Seawolves Fall to CCRI in Season Opener

outh Portland - The Seawolves hung tough for the first 45 minutes of yesterday's soccer contest but ran out of steam in the second half as they were overcome by the Knights of CCRI, 4-0.

A tough defensive battle landed the teams at a 0-0 tie as they entered the the break. Nine minutes into the second half the Knights' found the back of the net for the first time to give themselves a 1-0 advantage. That one goal cuased the CCRI offense to heat up as they poured in three more goals to take the 4-0 victory.

The CCRI defense played an impressive game, allowing the Seawolves only one shot. The Knights' managed 19 shots, 11 of those were saved by SMCC keeper Drew Martin (Berwick, ME).

The Seawolves (1-0, 0-0 YSCC) will be back in action on Saturday on the road at Vermont Technicaal College at 3pm.

Seawolves, Knights End in Deadlock After Double OT

Randolph, VT - After 110 minutes of play the Seawolves could not overcome the Knights of Vermont Tech as they ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Seawolves struck first, netting their lone goal shortly before halftime when Steve Rwendeye (Kigali, Rawanda) scored off a pass from teammate Brandon Ford (Lebanon, ME). The Seawolves were able to cling to their one point advantage until the 72:47 mark when the Knights' Troy Girard found the back of the net off an assist from Matthew Brien. A great defensive effort ensued as neither team was able to generate any further offense.

SMCC goalkeeper Drew Martin (Berwick, ME) ended the game with 10 saves.

With this tie the Seawolves are now sporting a 0-1-1 overall record. They will take the field again tomorrow, September 7th, at home against Ben Franklin College at 2pm. Please remember that Seawolves soccer home games are now being played at the Wainwright Sports Complex located at Gary L Maietta Way in South Portland.

Seawolves Pick Up First Win Against Ben Franklin

South Portland - This afternoon the Seawolves' offense was as hot as the temps as they netted five goals en route to a 5-2 victory over Ben Franklin Institute of Technology to pick up their first win of the 2015 season.

South Portland native Adam Helmke provided the spark for the Seawolves offense when he chipped a shot into the left corner of the net just 12 minutes into the contest. Four minutes later a versatile Evan Meiler (Saco, ME), who spent time at both the forward and defender positions this afternoon, laid a perfectly placed ball in front of teammate Sean Jackson (Berwick, ME) who was slicing down the middle of the field. Jackson found the back of the net to give the Seawolves a 2-0 lead. Center midfielder Douglas Cloutier (Berwick, ME) closed out the final ten minutes of the first half scoring back-to-back goals to give the Seawolves a four goal cushion going into the break.

SMCC suffered a defensive lapse in second half, giving up two goals in a three minute span, and allowing Ben Franklin to pull within two, 4-2. After the second Ben Franklin goal the Seawolves' defense collected themselves and held the Chargers scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Seawolves' forward Harrison Charwat (McLean, VA) chalked up the final goal of the afternoon off a beautiful pass from Hughes Bakunda (Burundi) to give SMCC the victory.

The Seawolves have now improved to 1-1-1 and will play again this week when they go on the road on Thursday to take on Bridgton Academy.
