Men’s Soccer Picked to Finish Fifth in NAC

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime men's soccer was picked to finish fifth in the North Atlantic Conference preseason men's soccer poll conducted by the league's coaches, after going 8-8-1 last season.

NAC Second Team All-Conference selections Jonathan Reeks (Bedford, N.H.), and Matt Leblanc (Dayton, Maine) return for their senior campaigns, as will NAC All-Academic selection Christopher Gilman (Old Town, Maine).

Reeks, the two-time 2014 NAC Player of the Week and ECAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week led the Mariners with 11 goals last season.

The Mariners, who received 62 points, will open up their season next Tuesday, September 1st when they host the University of New England at 6:30 PM.

Husson University and Thomas College tied for the top spot in the 2015 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's soccer preseason poll. Both the Eagles and the Terriers received 91 points apiece, with Husson receiving six first place votes and Thomas earning three.

Colby-Sawyer was selected third with 80 points after claiming the final first place vote, while New England College (64 points) and Castleton (60 points) took fourth and sixth respectively.

Rounding out the poll was the University of Maine at Farmington in seventh (33 points), Johnson State in eighth (32 points), Lyndon in ninth (27 points), and Green Mountain in 10th (10 points).

The top six teams in the 2015 regular-season conference standings will qualify for the conference tournament, which gets underway Sunday, November 1, with quarterfinal action between seeds 3-6. The top two seeds will earn a bye in the first round and will take on the two quarterfinal winners in the semifinals on Wednesday, November 4. The two semifinal victors will battle for the NAC championship on Saturday, November 7.
