College: York football star will tackle rugby in the fall at Maine-Farmington

Randy Small has coached hundreds of kids in his 19 years at the helm of the York High School football program.

Some kids he remembers more than others, while there are some that, when he hears their name, a wide smile goes across this face.

Jack Neary is one of those former players — a player who still, even though he graduated earlier this month, is a role model for the younger players in the York football system.

“(Neary) is a special kid, he truly is,” Small said. “He’s a role model to my own son and to the other younger kids still in high school. We had a lot of moments together. This past year, there was a moment every day in practice. I couldn’t wait to get to practice just to be around him.”
