NFHCA Selects Four UMF Players to Division III Scholars of Distinction List

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) listed four members of the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team to the 2014 Gladiator by SGKI/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction.

LeeAnne Greenleaf (Gardiner, Maine) played in all 15 games for the Beaver in her first season wearing maroon and white. Greenleaf recorded a key defensive save in the 2014 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship game.

Emily Lewia (Wells, Maine) scored her first career goals this season. On October 18, Lewis found the back of the cage in a, 6-0, victory over conference rival New England College.

Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine) ended the season with a record-breaking performance. Smith broke UMF’s single-game record with 28 saves and tied her for second most in the national for single-game saves this season.

Chelsea Morley (York, Maine) wrapped up an impressive career in 2014 with an NFHCA All-New England selection and earned NAC All-Academic honors.

The NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a grade point average of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-2015 academic year.

NFHCA Recognizes Names 10 UMF Field Hockey Players to National Academic Squad

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team was honored with ten members on the 2014 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad.

The list saw five upperclassmen and five underclassmen for UMF. Senior Chelsea Morley (York, Maine) earned the award for the fourth time in her career. Juniors Mara Balboni (Oakland, Maine); Delainey Kein (Unity, Maine); Susan Newkirk (Bethel, Maine); and Rebecca Young (Plainfield, N.H.) also received a selection.

Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine) and Emily Lewia (Wells, Maine) rounded out the sophomores on the list. The freshmen include: Sarita Crandall (Farmington, Maine); LeeAnne Greenleaf (Gardiner, Maine); and Emmah Spahr (Winthrop, Maine).

The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-2015 academic year.
