I haven't seen Bert Roberge mentioned yet.

Bilzfan mentioned Mr. Roberge on the first page of these posts. Great slider. Riot, as the best pitcher on a Telegram League Champion, the shout out was well deserved. There are, in fact, many guys who played at S.P. in those days that deserve mention.

Larry Gowell from Auburn - last American League pitcher to have a hit (double). Played for the Yankees but his religion kept him from playing part of each weekend. Great American Legion player too.

Billy Swift - SP. Excellent UMaine/major league career.

Coombs--the old time player that the Colby baseball field is named after. He pitched in the World Series.

Mike Bordick - Hampden Academy/UMaine/MLB

Johnny Cumberland - MLB (SF Giants)

Mark Rogers - Mt. Ararat (picked in the top 10 overall in the first year player draft).

I thought this was the best High School players. Do we consider college and pros as well. Lots of great ball players chose other sports than baseball to pursue in college.

Mike Edwards and Paul McCarty were great. Phil Adams was no slouch either.

What were the names of the 2 Cape guys that pitched back to back no hitters in the tournament back in the late 70s or early 80s?

I thought so too. I know there are/were a lot of great Maine baseball players in the pros, but who were the best high school players. It was my understanding that Bordick was a good high school baseball player, but he got better and better as he took it to his various next levels. Don't want to stir up the pot, but any thoughts?

kg: you're probably thinking of Bill Swift of South Portland and Todd Lamb of Cape Elizabeth. They both played on Morrill Post in that time period.

Bob Raftice, Todd Lamb and Bill Swift played on the South Portland American Legion team in 1978. Raftice was drafted by the Yankees, Lamb to Duke and Swift to UMaine then the Seattle Mariners, Giants, Rockies, etc.

Bit of switch, but who is the best current Maine resident in the majors.
