Deering Baseball 2019

Baseball is one of only a few sports in Maine HS sports where the competition is very close. In football, there is always that one team that is just more talented than other teams in the league (TA in 2018). In basketball, there are always a handful of teams that have a shot of winning it all. But in baseball, it seems to be wide open in Class A South. Just look at the 9 seed Falmouth's upset of the 1 seed South Portland in the South quarterfinals.

But there is one constant in the South for baseball in 2019. THE DEERING BASEBALL RAMS. Let's start with Deering's pitching which is some of the best in the league. Luke Hill coming off his dominant season on the bump, including his performance in the preliminary round of the playoffs when he mowed down several Biddeford batters. Mike Jones is a solid starter that showed signs of brilliance, he kept Deering in the game vs Cheverus in the South quarterfinals before being pulled after 5 innings. Josh Paisley is the wildcard but he can rifle the ball in there and has the opportunity to dominate. Chauncey Alado and Bennent Berg are going to be absolute studs out of the pen, they've been working with pitching guru Michael Collar all throughout the offseason. The Deering lineup is nothing to scoff at either, starting with Deering leadoff hitter Sammy Sparks, who has been a JV superstar for two years. Alado will be the 3rd baseman to start the year and he could possibly play a little bit of outfield if needed. Deering sluggers Josh Paisley, Luke Hill, Dom Russo, and Mike Randall will carry the load power-wise, especially with Paisley who has shown he can mash. One question mark this year will be the catcher position which Deering does not seem to have a clear replacement for D1 stud Jack Lynch but two guys that are ready to step up for the team and play catcher are Luke Hill and Mike Jones. Both have limited experience at the position but both are willing to put the time, blood, sweat, and tears to learn the position. Overall besides the catcher position, there are no holes on this loaded roster. The coaching staff has shown over the past four years they can be trusted as well. Josh Stowell has proven to be a top-five coach in the state winning at least one playoff game in four straight seasons as the Deering skipper. Overall, this team is loaded top to bottom with talent, going along with a great coaching staff, look for Deering to be one of the best teams come June, and even look for a deep run, perhaps even conquering Bangor and Oxford Hills in the north. Let's look at the lineup and starting rotation for the 2019 Deering Baseball Rams.
Here's the projected lineup for the start of the season

1. Sammy Sparks 2B
2. Chauncey Alado LF
3. Luke Hill P
4. Josh Paisley SS
5. Mike Jones C
6. Mike Randall 3B
7. Dom Russo RF
8. Bennent Berg CF
9. Matthew Keast RF

Pitching rotation
1. Luke Hill
2. Mike Jones
3. Josh Paisley
4. Chauncey Alado
5. Bennent Berg

I've got Deering as the favorites for baseball in 2019!!!!!!!

"Chauncey Alado and Bennent Berg are going to be absolute studs out of the pen, they've been working with pitching guru Michael Collar all throughout the offseason."

Isn't this a major MPA violation considering Collar was on the Deering Coaching Staff last season.

"espn123": Don't think so if the coach is not on the Deering coaching staff for the 2019 season this coming season.

The offseason meaning the summer after the season. Of course, they will not be working with Collar during the winter which would be a violation of the MPA rules. However, they were working with him during the Legion season.

The off season meaning the summer 6 week season. Of course, they will not be working with Collar during the winter which would be a violation of the MPA rules. However, they were working with him during the Legion season.

"jonesmj207": Which would not be an MPA sports season violation as the summer vacation time is the only time coaches can work with their players except during their current regular MPA season.

Maine high school athletes who play 3 sports fall, winter or spring are real busy during the 6 week summer open time.
