Cape Elizabeth downs Gray-New Gloucester
The Capers take control for good by scoring three runs in the second inning and defeat the Patriots, 5-1.

...Though Mann recovered to shut down the Capers in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, catcher Brendan Tinsman struck a powerful final blow in the seventh.

Tinsman, who has committed to play for Wake Forest, drilled a fastball over the fence in left-center field to extend the Cape Elizabeth lead to 5-1.

Coach Andrew Wood took Peterson out for the final inning, handing the ball to Sean Agrodnia. The Patriots did manage their second hit of the day off Agrodnia but couldn’t mount a serious rally.

Wood was pleased with Peterson’s performance.

..."Finn is usually our shortstop. This is his second time pitching this year. He comes in and throws strikes. I brought him in with a 3-0 count to throw strikes and he did, making me look like a genius," Wood said.

Tinsman added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning, ripping a 2-2 pitch over centerfielder Bob Shelley for an inside-the-park home run, the junior's third homer of the season.

"He's batting over .500 and every time he comes to the plate, the ball just jumps off his bat. That last at-bat he had, he worked the count to 2-2, fouling off a few pitches before getting that fastball to rip," coach Wood said.
