B South Final: Yarmouth 5, Wells 3

Yarmouth rows its boat past York, into Class B state final

STANDISH—Yarmouth Baseball is a mindset and a style unique unto itself.

The Clippers thrive on making things happen on the basepaths, riding great pitching and getting timely hitting, while utilizing every member of the roster, or as the big sign over the dugout calls it, “Row the Boat,” and that style and mindset earned the ultimate validation Tuesday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond on the campus of St. Joseph’s College.

Facing second-ranked York in the Class B South Final, its first regional final since 2011, ninth-seeded Yarmouth threw caution to the wind, built a lead and held on for dear life before making history.

Yarmouth holds on to advance to class B state title game

...This is Yarmouth's first trip to a state final game since 1995, when it won the Class C title.

Yarmouth starter Luke Waeldner set the tone on the bump, mixing in a variety of pitches and keeping the Wildcats' hitters in check, despite issuing eight walks. he gave up just four hits over 4 1/3 innings.

"I can't say enough about Luke. He's thrown like this for us all year, he's one of those crafty lefties," Yarmouth coach Marc Halsted said.

"That kid was great today, he battled," York coach Chuck Chadbourne said. "I'm a lefty, so I had hoped to have our kids prepared, but he did a fantastic job keeping them off balance."

Missed chances doom York in regional title game

...York (16-3) didn’t get its first hit off Yarmouth left-handed starter Luke Waeldner until the fourth inning and managed just five total hits off Waeldner and Dom Morrill. It stranded eight runners, including the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

“We felt good about our chances coming into the game,” said York coach Chuck Chadbourne, who brought a team back to St. Joseph’s for the first time since the Wildcats won the 2013 state championship in his first season. “I thought we had that one bad hiccup, and when you do that in the Class B South finals against as a hot of a team as Yarmouth, you’re going to have a bad time.”

Late rally lifts Old Town to second straight ‘B’ North title

...“These kids fight,” said Old Town coach Brad Goody. “They’ve been there before and know what it means and how special this is. They never quit.”

The Coyotes trailed 5-3 with the top of its batting order coming up in the bottom of the seventh against Erskine reliever Dylan Presby.

T.J. Crawford led off with a bunt single down the third-base line, then advanced to second on a balk by Presby. Ryan Hoogterp walked before Cole Daniel ripped a double to left-center. Crawford scored easily on the play, and when Erskine center fielder Cody Taylor misplayed the ball Hoogterp scored the tying run from first.

Old Town baseball and softball support one another in title runs

OLD TOWN - Tuesday night was a big one for the city of Old Town, with both Coyotes squads walking away with Class B North titles and punching their tickets to the state title games for the second-consecutive season.

But with plenty of dramatics to be found, the teams were still able to be there for one another, and have helped push one another deep into the postseason.

How do you see this state game playing out ?

Old Town Baseball Team’s “Mascots” are Part of the Team for State run

Old Town baseball and softball teams both made the class B state games. They both won state last year and look to defend their titles.

The Coyotes baseball team always plays loose. Their antics off the field and in the dugout are case in point
