St. Dom's:: Opportunistic Saints swamp Rangers

Clutch hitting, pitching and defense give Saints 5-2 win over Hawks

... Keaney tossed three innings of scoreless relief and St. Dom's got the timely hits in the sloppy conditions to rally to a 5-2 win.

"I'm really proud of the offense," said St. Dom's coach Bob Blackman, who started three freshmen and three sophomores. "We had runners on base in every inning. It's kind of been our bugaboo all year where we just haven't been able to put three or four on in a row. Today, we had the one inning where we put some together and you could just see the spirits go up."

Keaney relieved starter Riley Volpe with the bases loaded and two outs and the Saints trailing, 2-0, in the top of the fourth. Sacopee's Dana Shea belted his first pitch to deep center, but Bobby Shelley got a good jump on it and caught it to end the threat.

Opportunistic Saints swamp Rangers

... "We're a team where we can go a while without putting two hits together, and that's what it was looking like early on," St. Dom's coach Bob Blackman said. "Once we did, we got a chance to do some things, put some pressure on them."

"(The fourth inning rally) gave us a lot of energy," Volpe said. "I think this is huge. We're going to move up in the standings."

The Saints (8-4), who lost to the Rangers (6-6) in Kittery, 2-1, on May 1, leap-frogged Traip and Winthrop to the No. 4 spot in the C South Heal point standings as the season heads into its stretch drive.
