Smiles all round: Rangers slug their way to mercy-rule win

... Senior right fielder Trevor Salema’s 4-for-4 effort spearheaded a 14-hit attack that propelled Traip to a 10-0 victory over Waynflete High School in Class C South action at Memorial Field. The game was called in the sixth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule, following Tyler Apocada’s RBI double.

“It’s taking us some time to get some offense. We’ve been struggling to hit the ball,” Salema said. “Once we got some runs coming in early, our confidence went up. The difference today was going up to the plate, attacking the ball and having smart base running.”

Shane MacNeill added three hits for Traip (4-1), including a single off Waynflete starting pitcher PD Silk in the bottom of the first inning that led to Traip’s first run off a throwing error. Charlie Driscoll followed with an RBI single to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead over Waynflete (0-3).
