Rogers Post defeats River Valley in American Legion baseball opener

RUMFORD — Grant Hartley's two-run home run in the seventh highlighted a four-run inning in Rogers Post's 8-7 victory over River Valley on Thursday.

River Valley made a come back in the bottom of the inning, scoring three times, but left the tying and go ahead runs on second and third.

Rogers Post (1-0) scored four times in the opening inning. Tyler Blanchard led Rogers with two hits.

River Valley (0-1) had two homers in the game: Guss Brown hit a solo shot in the bottom of the third, and Dylan Desroches had a three-run shot in the next inning.

Cam Godbois had two hits including a double, and Gavin Arsenault had a double.

Will Snyder's two-run double sparks the Portland/Falmouth team to a 6-4 win over Yankee Ford.

FALMOUTH — Andrews Post broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the third inning, highlighted by Will Snyder’s two-run double, and opened its American Legion baseball season Thursday night with a 6-4 win over Yankee Ford at Falmouth High.

To follow up the comment by "from the bench" in regard to the high school wood bat league. Not sure why it is wood bat. You don't use wood in high school games and you don't use wood in college games so why use wood here? Yes I know there is a benefit to using a wood bat to improve your mechanics (smaller sweet spot) but a lot of these teams will have a lot of young players who may be facing varsity caliber pitchers for the 1st time and using a wood bat is not going to make that any easier.

HAMPDEN — Nick Guerrette tossed a complete game three-hitter as the RH Foster Riverdogs beat Skowhegan 10-5 in Zone 1 American Legion baseball action at Bordick Park on Saturday.

Emery Dinsmore and Casey Sudbeck led the RH Foster offense with three hits apiece. Brandon Smith added two hits.

Brendan Curran tripled to lead Skowhegan’s offense.

Local baseball roundup: Yankee Ford sweeps Zone 3 United
Logan Drouin leads the way in Game 1, while Nate Ingalls has three hits in Game 2.

SOUTH PORTLAND — Nate Ingalls had three hits, including a triple and drove in three runs to lift Yankee Ford (2-1) to a 9-2 win over Zone 3 United (0-3) in the second game of a Zone 3 American Legion baseball doubleheader on Sunday.

Yankee Ford won the first game 12-0 in five innings.

Nolan Brown added a triple and a single for Yankee Ford.

American Legion baseball: Rogers Post puts away Gardiner

GARDINER — Damien St. Pierre the batter helped out Damien St. Pierre the pitcher Monday night in Rogers Post's 6-4 American Legion baseball victory over Gardiner.

St. Pierre had two hits, including a double, while also pitching a complete-game six-hitter.

Jake Arel also had a double as part of a two-hit game, and Austin Cox added a pair of hits as well for Rogers Post (2-0).

Kolton Brochu doubled for Gardiner (0-2). Jonah Martin started the game for the hosts, while Connor Nilsson finished up on the mound in the seventh.

The scoring went back and forth in the middle innings. Rogers Post took a 2-0 lead into the fourth, only for Gardiner to rally back for a 3-2 advantage. The visitors tied it briefly in the top of the fifth before the hosts went back up by one. A three-run sixth was the difference for Rogers Post.
