Skowhegan Legion sweeps Brewer Monday

BREWER - The weather hasn't been kind to the Skowhegan Legion squad the past week, with postponements and delays becoming of annoyance. So when it had a chance to makeup a game with Brewer and play a doubleheader Monday, it jumped at the opportunity.

Skowhegan would take Game 1 7-1, and got in front early in Game 2 to win 8-3

A tough day for Highland
Team drops doubleheader

...This season, the team from Topsham moved to Zone 3, meaning the schedule featured squads from southern Maine, teams that have seen success over the years.

So far, Highland Green has struggled, and after dropping both ends of a Saturday doubleheader to Yankee Ford, 4-1 and 11-4, the squad is now 2-5. If Highland wants to make a postseason run, it is going to have to figure things out quickly as only the top two teams in the zone advance to the playoffs after a 20-game slate.

Yankee Ford, made up of players from Portland, Falmouth and Bonny Eagle programs, improved to 6-2.

Locke Mills avenges loss to Pastime

...When asked if his team was motivated after Monday’s defeat, Locke Mills manager Skip Bennett said, with a smile and a chuckle, “Yes, they were motivated.”

“That’s definitely not how we expect our guys to play,” Pastime manager Jake Brown said. “We hold them to a higher standard.”

Locke Mills got on the board first with a single from Hunter Day to start off the third inning. Day later stole second and reached third off a sac bunt. Centerfielder Tanner Wheeler knocked in Day with a single and just like that, Locke Mills had the lead.

American Legion baseball: 'Unselfish' Rogers Post defeats Franklin County

...The coach's chess game allowed Rogers (6-3) to come away with a 6-2 victory over stubborn Franklin (4-8).

"We have a lot of games coming up, and one, we are trying to get as many games in as we can, with weather and everything like that," Jordan said. "We have a very good team. I am pleased with one through 14 that was here today. They are good ballplayers.

"Our guys were completely unselfish — people coming in and out of the game doing their roles. My thought was everybody improved today. I thought when it was crunch time, I thought our guys were able to make some plays. I thought we came up with some good hits. Some of them were with two outs."

Jarod Norcross Plourde started on the mound for Rogers, Ethan Brown filled in the middle of the game and hard-throwing Gavin Bates mopped up to earn the save. Brown got the win after coming in in the third inning with one out with Rogers ahead 3-2.
