Wells Warriors ready for action

WELLS — After an 8-8 regular season and early playoff exit in 2016, the Wells baseball team hopes to take one step further in 2017, and feels that it has the pieces to get the job done.

Despite losing six seniors to graduation, the Warriors return three, three-year starting juniors from last year’s club. They also welcome a handful of young players that look poised to make an impact on the diamond.

“With a great mix of veterans and youth and only one preseason game played it will be fun to see how fast this group can come together,” said Wells coach Todd Day.

Scooted up to Mansfield Stadium to watch Lewiston take on Bangor. Over the last two years, Lewiston has made great improvements in their play. Coach Emerson has done a nice job developing his players...starting pitcher (Cox) had a plan on the mound and moved the ball around. Defense was solid and the kids made plays. Catcher (Belanger) was solid behind the plate and aggressive at the plate. Chasse (DH) was aggressive at the plate with a nice swing. That program is moving in the right direction.

Versatile, competitive Camden Hills ready to battle Class A foes

...Outlook: The Windjammers will look to return to the postseason after one year off — and two removed from winning the Class B North regional championship.
MacDonald said many of his players have a knack to play multiple positions, which will be a plus when the season swings in. He added that his team will be “solid” on defense and offense, though pitching will be a question mark.
“With the pitch-count rule this year we will most likely take a harder look at the role of the starting pitcher,” he said. “We have 10 players that have showed interest in learning the art of pitching.”
