Bangor baseball returns hopeful for another title

BANGOR - High expectations have come to be the the norm around Bangor baseball. There is perhaps no school in the state with as much history on the diamond, and there's certainly a case for calling the current group part of a dynasty.

"We do have a big nucleus coming back," said senior catcher Derek Fournier. "[We'll have] strong players that have been here in the past and have been successful, so I'm very excited for the upcoming season."

The Times Record‏ @MidcoastNews
TR Sports: Freeport baseball back at it.

... “Our expectation is success,” Ridge said. “We believe we should be able to go out and compete with teams. Playoffs is always kind of that first goal that we set. We expect ourselves to give ourselves a chance to do that. Really, that’s it. We want to get in. Last year we showed we just want to get in and see what happens.”

“Our focus really is to just win games,” Freeport pitcher Josh Burke said. “Just take it a game at a time. Don’t think too much in the future — just think in the present.”

Turnover

Burke is one of a few seniors that will be called upon to step up this season. On top of ace Jack Davenport and starter Caleb Rice, three other seniors moved on and, to Ridge’s surprise, numbers are down a bit this year. Five freshmen and four sophomores have joined the program.

Bangor’s Man in the Mask Derek Fournier

Pitchers and catchers are working to prepare for the high school baseball season. Bangor senior Derek Fournier has been the Rams goalie in hockey and catcher in baseball over the last few years. We caught up him to see how similar those positions are.

George Stevens baseball hoping to finally capture state title

BLUE HILL - For the past few years, Blue Hill has come to be known as a hotbed for hoops, as the George Stevens Academy boys basketball team has won back to back Class C state championships. However, with a few different bounces, the Eagles may very well have had the same success on the baseball diamond.
