Local Babe Ruth teams seek chances to move on to state tournaments
Augusta, Apple Valley, Franklin County among squads looking to advance through district play.

...Augusta’s next game will be a rematch with either Central Maine or Apple Valley, which has been led at the plate by Hunter Hayes, Jayden Ruel and Blain Shaw and on the mound by Wyatt Lambert and Nick Florek.

In the 13-15-year-old tournament, Apple Valley has been led offensively by Allen Peabody (who had a single, double and triple and three RBI in the Coastal West win) and Hunter Glows, and on the mound by Peabody and Tanner Burgess.

The 13-year-old state tournament begins Wednesday in Auburn, the 14-year-old tournament starts Thursday at McGuire Field in Augusta and the 13-15 tournament will begin Thursday at Augusta’s Morton Field ... urnaments/

Midcoast 15s split Babe Ruth playoff doubleheader

THOMASTON — The Midcoast 15 year old all-star Babe Ruth baseball team took the field for a district playoff doubleheader Friday, July 7 at Thomaston’s Oceanside baseball field.

In the day’s opening contest, the Midcoast 15s defeated Augusta 4-1 before falling to Apple Valley 10-7 in the final game of the day. In between the Midcoast doubleheader, Coastal West eliminated Coastal North by grabbing a 12-2 victory.

The playoff tournament will continue Saturday, July 8 when Coastal West challenges Augusta at 2:15 p.m. with the winner playing the Midcoast squad at 4:45 p.m. The loser of both contests will be eliminated. Apple Valley will battle the winner of the 4:45 p.m. game for the district crown Sunday, July 9.

Midcoast 15s 2-1 after three games in District 2 tournament
Host squad beats Coastal North, Augusta, falls to Apple Valley

THOMASTON — Midcoast has won two of its first three games in the four-team, four-day, double-elimination District 2 Babe Ruth 13-15-year-old tournament on the Oceanside High School field.

The tourney continues through the weekend.

July 6 scores: Midcoast 15, Coastal North 7; and Apple Valley 9, Coastal West 4.
July 7 scores: Midcoast 4, Augusta 1; Coastal West 12, Coastal North 2; and Apple Valley 10, Midcoast 7.

Games scheduled for July 8: Coastal West versus Augusta - 2:15 p.m.; and Midcoast versus Coastal West-Augusta winner - 4:45 p.m.

Midcoast 14s fall in all-star Babe Ruth district championship, state tourney up next

THOMASTON — The Midcoast 14s all-star Babe Ruth baseball team fell in the District 2 championship contest Sunday, July 9 at Thomaston’s Oceanside baseball field when Augusta squeaked by with a 2-1 victory.

But, all is not lost for the local boys.

Although Augusta won the district tournament, the Midcoast 14s will still represent the district since Augusta automatically earns a spot in the state tournament due to being the host site.

Midcoast will open up the state tournament with a Friday, July 14 contest at 12:30 p.m. against Tri-County. The pool play tournament will see Midcoast challenge Portland Saturday, July 15 at 9:30 a.m., South Portland Sunday, July 16 at 11 a.m. and Augusta Sunday, July 16 at 4:30 p.m.

The two teams with the best records will compete for the state crown Monday, July 17 at 4:30 p.m.

All state tournament games will be held at Augusta’s McGuire Field.

Portland Babe Ruth baseball team wins district title

The Portland Babe Ruth 15U All-Star baseball team recently won the District 4 title and advanced to the state tournament which will take place in Augusta later this week. Portland opens the tournament Thursday against Auburn.

Lincoln All-Stars defeat Bronco

LINCOLN, Maine — Jackson Sutherland knocked a two-run home run and doubled to lead the Lincoln 11-12 Little League All-Stars to a 7-2 District 3 baseball victory over Bronco on Tuesday.

Matt Ouellette doubled in two runs for Lincoln while allowing just five hits to earn a complete-game pitching win. Cody Smith homered and singled while Brody smith added a double, single and RBI.

For Bronco, T.J. Llarena singled twice to knock in two runs while Collin Peckham singled and doubled. ... at-bronco/

Three Bronco-Hermon Senior League baseball players ruled ineligible

Three players from the Bronco-Hermon Senior League baseball team have been ruled ineligible for continued postseason play this summer for failing to meet mandatory play rules during the regular season.

That ruling was handed down in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, late Wednesday afternoon after Little League’s rules committee considered a protest filed earlier this week.

The Bronco-Hermon team, which features players ages 13-16 from the Hampden-Hermon area, was not penalized further and will continue to play in the ongoing Maine District 3 tournament, said district administrator Mike Brooker. ... neligible/

Holbrook Senior League squad keeps season going with 4-0 win against Old Town

BANGOR - Needing a win to avoid being eliminated in the double-elimination format, Holbrook sent Matt Cunningham to the mound to battle Old Town's Brendan Gasaway in the Senior League tournament Thursday. It was certainly the right call. ... t-old-town
