Recent cold blast thickens lake ice, makes for safer snowmobiling

ST. JOHN VALLEY, Maine - Cold weather over the last several days has created safer ice on St. John Valley lakes, according to the most recent snowmobile trail report - issued Wednesday, Dec. 31 - by the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department. Club members in Frenchville, Madawaska, Caribou, St. Agatha, Portage and Mars Hill have all been out to check trails and have reported that conditions were “not all that bad,” according to the report.
