Maine Sports Hall of Fame Announces 2017 Class of Inductees

... Five-time Olympic medalist Ian Crocker of Portland set world records in the 50- and 100-meter butterfly and 100-meter free. The graduate of Cheverus earned the first of his three Olympic gold medals at age 18 at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. The eight-time World Champion also medaled at the 2004 Athens Games and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. At the University of Texas, Crocker was the 2004 NCAA Swimmer of the Year.

Maine swimming hall of fame to induct two

The Maine Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame has selected Whitney Rockwell and Sarah Oldenburg Falk as its 2017 inductees.

Formal induction will be held Sunday, April 23, during a ceremony in Lewiston.

Rockwell, who began her swimming at Coastal Maine Aquatics, was a member of both the 1998 and 1999 national high school championship teams at the Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida.

Maine Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame inductions set Sunday

...Membership in the hall of fame will be extended to Gina Mancini, Emily Caras Snyder and to Jason Thomas, who will be inducted posthumously.

Mancini was a three-time high school All-American during her career at Falmouth High School earning. She earned that distinction in the 50-yard freestyle (23.9 seconds) in 2003 and was honored again in 2004 with a 23.8 in the 50 free.

Mancini, the Maine Interscholastic Swim League Class B Swimmer of the Year in 2004 and 2005 received All America honors in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.6) in 2006. During four years at Falmouth, she was undefeated in dual-meet and championship competition.
