ZG Finals - Saturday Recap

More than 700 teams flocked to the greater Boston area for the annual Zero Gravity National Finals. As most teams progressed though pool play on Saturday to see who will earn their way to bracket play on Sunday afternoon, the following players stood out:

Akok Akok (Mass Rivals, 2019)- Akok showed the same improved range on his jump shot throughout the day that he did during the month of April. Defensively, opposing drivers had no way to avoid the long & athletic big man standing in their way. Potential is starting to turn into production, and he is poised to be one of the most followed 2019 prospects in the region once the live period kicks off next month.

Cole Swider (BABC, 2018)- Swider's improved athleticism is one key reason why his recruitment has elevated itself even past what it was with his recent Duke offer. He lead BABC to big wins, as his confidence rubs off on his teammates. He was knocking down shots all over the court & getting out and running in transition.

ZG Finals - Varsity Division Recap

With pool play concluding in the morning, bracket play began in all age groups on Sunday afternoon throughout southeast Massachusetts. More than 700 teams were narrowed down a handful of teams who won their pool, and the following navigated the talent-filled playoff field & earned the right to be crowned Zero Gravity National Champions on Sunday afternoon.

In the varsity division, the quarterfinals featured Project Triple Threat (PTT) vs. New England Playaz. Ty Thomas paced PTT early, creating offense for himself and for others. The Playaz depth wore PTT down as the game went on, as Chris Doherty came in and helped the Playaz pick up the energy. Chris Herren hit several big shots, and the Playaz advanced to the semis to face the Middlesex Magic.

ZG Finals - 9th Grade Division Recap

With pool play concluding in the morning, bracket play began in all age groups on Sunday afternoon throughout southeast Massachusetts. More than 700 teams were narrowed down a handful of teams who won their pool, and the following navigated the talent-filled playoff field & earned the right to be crowned Zero Gravity National Champions on Sunday afternoon.

Two of the better point guards in the 9th grade division squared off in the quarterfinals, with Quest Harris of BABC and Bensley Joseph of NE Playaz going at it. Both went back and forth with impressive drives, showing that the future of the point guard position is bright in New England. The inside trio of Matt Cross, Qualeem Charles & Kekoa McArdle proved to be too much, as BABC earned their trip to the semis. There, they would face Mass Rivals, who behind the solid play of Jamal Fricas, defeated Expressions South. One needs to see Fricas play several times to really appreciate what a talented young prospect he is evolving...
