ERIC AYALA INVESTIGATES A POSSIBLE RECLASS

.. Entering the winter months and with their being a limited amount of high-major prospects still left on the board out of the 2017 class, programs have begun to exhaust every avenue possible in finding capable producers for next season. Eric Ayala has entered the forefront for some as the 6-foot-3 guard has been granted the opportunity to possibly reclass, thus making him a high-major priority for those throughout the east coast and beyond.

Running with the talented Putnam Science Academy program for the second straight year, the Delaware native has settled in nicely in the backcourt displaying major versatility out top. At one time, the junior was primarily seen as a score-first option that would struggle to convert with efficiency in the half-court setting. However, Ayala displayed major progressions during his time at the National Hoops Festival over the weekend as he slid onto the ball and made plays for other without turning the ball over much.

Re: Putnam Science: Eric Ayala MVP at Under Armour Finals

Postby Tom Nolette » Mon Jul 17, 2017 6:27 am

Saturday at the Under Armour Association Finals was headlined by championship games, and we’re ready to hand out some of our own awards to recognize the best of the day's action

17U Championship: We R-1 73, Team Charlotte 61

MVP: Eric Ayala

The four-star 2018 guard controlled the game on both ends of the court to help We R-1 win the 17U championship for the second year in a row. Ayala thrives playing in an ugly game because he’s a physical player himself who doesn’t mind a little contact. Sean Miller was courtside to put eyes on him, as were assistants from LSU, Indiana and Syracuse.

Eric Ayala: Delaware’s Finest Making Presence Felt on UAA Circuit

...After starting his first couple of years at the Sanford School, a private school in Hockessin, Delaware, he decided to make the move to Putnam Science Academy in Putnam, Connecticut, the home of a national powerhouse program, which produced players such as former Dayton guard Dayshon “Scoochie” Smith and Hamidou Diallo, who will start his freshman year at Kentucky. As a result of his transfer, Ayala reclassified into the Class of 2018, which means that this will be his post-graduate year.

“It was like I knew I needed to experience something else, you know, going up there was definitely a challenge, something I definitely wasn’t expecting, but it made me better as a person and a player,” said Ayala on transferring to Putnam Science, “You know, competing against high-level players in practice, it just brings the best out of you, working out every day, working out before school. It builds that work ethic in you, where, you don’t need nobody to tell you to work out in the gym, you could just do it on your own. Our gym is open 24/7, so I’m always in there every night. I feel like I benefitted so much from it, I don’t think I’d be in the position I’m in if I didn’t go to Putnam Science.”

On being part of the Putnam Science program: “I love it. They’re doing a great job. Coach Scraba and Coach Espinoza, they really care about the players. When we’re there, it’s not just about the basketball. They’re there off the court. Whenever we need something, we can always go to either one of our coaches. Still to this day, both of them still contact me and keep up with me.”

Eric Ayala remains in the 2018 class, cuts list to nine

What could have been the last major domino to fall within the 2017 recruiting class, Eric Ayala will instead remain as a class of 2018 prospect. The top-100 guard will enroll at IMG Academy this fall and while his recruitment remains open, he has settled on a cut list of nine.
