York’s Mackaman earns 100th career win

...Mackaman becomes the 11th Wildcat to reach the 100-win milestone. He joins Billy Gauthier (147 career wins, 2010), Ray Gauthier (120, 2008), Josh Smith (114, 2016), Alex Mercurio (113, 2013), Reaha Goyetche (109, 2010), Mark Slusher (104, 2015), Brian Carl (102, 2001), Dan Towers (101, 2008), Zach Faskianos (101, 2013) and Connor Elsemore (100, 2016).

“Every time (someone reaches 100) it’s a special moment,” York wrestling coach Wally Caldwell said. “You have to stay healthy for four years, and you have to be pretty good, he’s done a great job. He has put in his time and he’s stayed with it, he’s a warrior. Josh had to work to get here, probably a lot more than our other 100-win wrestlers.”

Mackaman won all four of his matches Saturday to win his weight class. One less win on Saturday and Mackaman would be going for his 100th on Wednesday at Windham. He was glad he was able to celebrate on his home mat.

Miller's milestone 100th win headlines Panthers' competition
Medomak Valley toils with 12 other schools in unique weekend meet

...ELLSWORTH — As the high school wrestling regular season winds down, Medomak Valley was back on the mats on Saturday, Jan. 20, this time in Ellsworth, for a meet that welcomed 13 teams — and included a milestone moment for one of the Panthers' most talented student-athletes.

Team scores were not compiled, but those squads that were represented included: Bucksport, Calais, Caribou, Dexter, Ellsworth, Fort Kent, Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft, Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston, Penobscot Valley of Howland, Piscataquis of Guilford and Washington Academy of East Machias.

This meet was a little different than normal, with the tournament a round-robin style event. Each weight class was divided into an upper and lower tier, as each competitor faced everyone in that group.

There were 228 matches on the day, and no forfeits, and when the competition was complete, Medomak Valley’s Eli Miller had brought home his milestone 100th career win.
