MMA returning to Bangor with NEF 30

BANGOR - After a successful event in Lewiston this past weekend, New England Fights is headed to Bangor this summer.

The promotion will host a rare Bangor show with "NEF 30: Rumble in Bangor" Aug. 5. The event will be held at Cross Insurance Center, marking almost a year to the day the venue held another major MMA show. Last year, UFC President Dana White brought his "Lookin' For a Fight" show to the arena, where he showcased several local fighters hungry to work in UFC.

Young's product CJ Ewer to return to ring in Bangor NEF show

BANGOR - With New England Fights set to hold a show in Bangor for the first time in a year, a local fighter will return with it.

CJ Ewer has agreed to be a part of "NEF 30: Rumble in Bangor" which was announced for this coming August.

Ewer is a product of Young's MMA in Bangor, and is 2-0 in his young professional career. That last win came by knockout at NEF's previous Bangor show last August, in which Dana White was present for the taping of his reality show. Ewer defeated Ruben Redman in that fight with a knockout that elicited a positive reaction from the UFC president.

Local fighters to highlight Bangor card

The next New England Fights mixed martial show not only will be held in Bangor, it will feature a distinctly Queen City-area flavor.

Seven fighters from Young’s MMA in Bangor will compete on the 11-bout card announced Friday for the Aug. 5 show in the grand ballroom of the Cross Insurance Center, including two who will be battling for promotion championships and a third who already holds a title belt.

The headliner among three professional bouts will match C.J. Ewer of Young’s MMA against Mike Hansen of Rumford in a five-round battle to crown the new NEF middleweight (185-pound) champion.

Ewer Brothers to Fight at NEF "Rumble in Bangor" Saturday

BANGOR, MAINE (WABI) - The Ewer family, now from Bangor, will be well represented on Saturday as New England Fights holds its “Rumble in Bangor” event at Cross Center. CJ Ewer's last fight was in Bangor last year. But, there's a reason he hasn't fought since...

Lacey ready for Goldsby at NEF 30 after long layoff

BANGOR - Last year, Aaron Lacey (4-0) took the New England fighting scene by storm. His ascent from amateur to professional came with four wins in a matter of just seven months, with three of them ending in the first round of the fight. His dominance put him on the map in the region, but his momentum was quickly brought to a halt.

A series of injuries and cancellations has left Lacey hanging high-and-dry since November, which remains to be the last time he was able to compete in an actual bout. That's about to change though, as at NEF 30 Saturday in Bangor, he'll take on Bryan Goldsby (18-15) in front of his home crowd.

"It's a lot of fun, something different. Waking up in your own bed, not in a hotel room. It has its pluses and minuses, but fighting close to home is always great," Lacey said Tuesday after wrapping up his final intense day of training.

Local show boosts training camp for area combatants

...“Sometimes when we fight in Lewiston we only have three or four guys on the card so it’s hard to get everyone on the same page as far as training,” said current NEF lightweight champion Ryan Sanders, one of seven combatants from Young’s MMA in Bangor scheduled to compete on the 11-fight card.

“But with us having so many guys on the card everyone’s been at the gym. We’ve been averaging eight or 10 or 12 guys on the mat at any given time, which has been great because you want to get the best from everybody and with that many guys you’re only going to get better.”

This will mark NEF’s third appearance in Bangor overall and first in exactly one calendar year, since the Aug. 5, 2016, event at the Cross Center that was taped for UFC president and part-time Hermon resident Dana White’s web series “Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight.”

NEF 30 weigh-ins heighten excitement for local fighters

BANGOR - With just more than 24 hours to go before NEF 30: Rumble in Bangor, the fighters came together at Sea Dog Brewing Co. for weigh-ins. There was a particularly loud gallery at this gathering though, and it came from one gym: Young's MMA.

The Bangor-based squad has six fighters on the 10-fight show, all of whom made weight for their respective bouts. Amateur Angela Young was set to fight Jessica Borga in a 135-pound bout that was pushed to 140-pounds late Thursday night. Still, Borga missed weight by 2.8-pounds. Young has decided to take the fight regardless, while the Robbie Kiah/Robert H. Norris III bout is off.
