Lincolnville native to face former champion in UFC test

Tim Boetsch typically hasn’t been the bigger combatant during his 21 previous Ultimate Fighting Championship bouts.

That was true when the Lincolnville native fought as a 205-pound light heavyweight and even as he has competed more recently in the 185-pound middleweight class.

Boetsch will be the bigger guy when he steps into the Octagon on Sunday night to battle former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 112 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The main card, to be televised live on FS1, is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. The preliminary card, which will include the second UFC fight for Wells lightweight Devin Powell, will be aired on FS2 beginning at 7 p.m.

Maine fighter earns $50K bonus with TKO of former UFC champ

“The Barbarian” had a big night in Oklahoma City on Sunday.

Lincolnville native Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch used a right leg kick to the head to set up a second-round technical knockout over hometown favorite Johny “Big Rigg” Hendricks in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 112 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.

The Camden-Rockport High School graduate was awarded a $50,000 performance of the night bonus for his effort, and he also got 20 percent of Hendricks’ paycheck after the former UFC welterweight champion failed to make the weight limit for the scheduled three-round middleweight (185-pound) contest.

Boetsch wrecks 'Big Rigg' Hendricks in knockout at UFC Fight Night
Lincolnville native collects third win in past four fights

...Squaring off against Hendricks — the former UFC welterweight champion — Boetsch connected with a right kick to the side of Hendricks’ head and pounced from there as the referee called the fight at the 4:14-mark of the second round, to give “The Barbarian” the TKO (technical knockout) victory.

For Boetsch (21-11), a 1999 Camden-Rockport High School graduate and four-time state Class B wrestling champion, it was his third win in the past four fights and the second time in his career he has nabbed "Performance of the Night" honors.

The last time Boetsch did that, he knocked out Brad Tavares at UFC Fight Night 47 on Aug. 16, 2014 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. "Performance of the Night" honors carries a $50,000 bonus.
