North routes South 9-1 in A/B All-Star Softball Game

AUGUSTA - Presque Isle's Faith Leavitt received a three-run first inning from her new teammates on the North region squad in Thursday's Class A/B All-Star Softball Game, and as it turned out, that is all she would need.

South rides pitching en route to 4-1 win over North in C/D Softball Game

AUGUSTA - Madeline Wood was dominant for Madison for much of the season, and had a chance to show her skills once more in the Class C/D All-Star Softball Game Thursday afternoon.

Wood and Richmond's Meranda Martin combined for a nine-inning, one-run performance against the North All-Stars, giving the South a 4-1 win.

Softball stars: Cowan, Glaser are perfect fits
All-star game selections are deserved for MVC building blocks.

...For Carrabec coach Craig Knight, it couldn’t have been more appropriate for Cowan to be honored for her season.

“She’s very, very unselfish. She’d give up anything for her team. That’s the type of kid she is,” said Carrabec coach Craig Knight, who urged Cowan — the lone senior the Cobras had — to participate as an all-star. “To come out here in the senior game and play her last game, it’s really cool.”

Winthrop outfielder Molly Glaser was also part of the South lineup Thursday. Like Cowan, she served as a building block on a team that — while built on an emergence of young talent — needed a selfless veteran to help steer the ship.

New Hampshire beats Maine in All-Star softball game

WATERVILLE - Tuesday saw the official end of high school softball, as the Maine all-star team met New Hampshire for a double-header at Colby College. The second game was cancelled due to a storm, but they did get in some action before the rain began.

New Hampshire took the lead with a five-run fifth inning, and the game was called in the seventh of nine innings. Maine fell 6-3 despite a nice showing. Old Town head coach Jennifer Plourde, who coached the Maine squad, said despite the unlucky finish with the weather, it was still a positive experience.
