Oceanside Little League softball
Islanders make it two straight titles with dramatic win over George Hall
No. 1 team scores winning run in bottom of final inning to break an 11-11 tie against No. 2 squad

ROCKLAND — There are many ways to finish off a championship softball season, but few more exciting, dramatic and sudden — for both teams — than a key hit and a runner racing around third base and sliding across the plate with the decisive run in the bottom of the final inning.

That was the scenario that played out on Sunday afternoon, June 11 after more than two hours of a back-and-forth tug-of-war as the Islanders from Vinalhaven and George C. Hall finally decided matters after playing the first 5 1/2 innings to an 11-11 tie.

The top-ranked Islanders scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning, moments after No. 2 George Hall had tied the game 11-11 in the top of the frame, to win their second straight Oceanside Little League softball crown — this time 12-11 on a glorious late-spring day at George C. Hall Field.

Portland softball pitcher named to Team USA

Portland’s Sadie Armstrong, an ace pitcher for the Portland Little League and the Southern Maine Flame, has been selected as one of two Maine athletes to represent Team USA for the 12U All American Games. This is the highest honor a 12U athlete can receive. For the second consecutive year, Armstrong is the only Maine athlete to ever compete for the USSSA All American Games in Orlando, Florida.

Youth Softball: Twin Electric wins Westbrook City Championship

...“The game was a total team effort,” said Twin Electric coach Lisa Wallace. “The girls were excited and came to play. Their enthusiasm was overwhelming right from the beginning! The fans were, and have been, amazing, getting the girls to the field for games and practices. Very supportive and just a nice group of parents.”

Grace Wallace, on the mound for Twin Electric, hurled 11 Ks, and Riley Campbell at third base “made three great outs,” as Lisa Wallace says, “including a double out to end the game.”

District 2 Little League softball
Five Town scores in droves, soars past Lincoln County in 11-12 opener

Five Town leads best-of-three series 1-0, game two June 28

ROCKLAND — The District 2 Little League 11- and 12-year-old softball all-star tournament — a best-of-three series between Five Town and Lincoln County — swung in on Monday night, June 26 on George C. Hall Field, a scenario that saw Five Town not take its foot off the run-scoring accelerator throughout the shortened diamond affair.

Five Town pounced on Lincoln County early and needed only four innings to sail to an 18-1 mercy-rule victory.

Thus, Five Town leads the series 1-0 and will look to close out the District 2 crown on Wednesday, June 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the same venue. Should Lincoln County win Wednesday, a winner-take-all final will take place on Saturday, July 1 at 3 p.m. on the same field.
