Telstar 14, Old Orchard Beach 11

BETHEL — Kylee Martin had a big game for Telstar in a 14-11 victory over Old Orchard Beach in a Class C South preliminary game.

Martin recorded the victory, going the distance in the circle. She also helped her own cause in the bottom of the sixth inning — her three-run triple scored the game-winning runs to give the Rebels (8-7) a 14-8 lead. She had three hits in the game.

Josie Forbes had a pair of hits, including a double and had two RBIs for Telstar. Luci Rothwell had a pair of hits.

Hall-Dale softball team picks perfect time to play best game of season
Bulldogs edge Traip to reach Class C South quarterfinals.

...“All around that is the best game that we’ve played all year,” Hall-Dale coach Steve Acedo said.

The Bulldogs couldn’t do much against Eddy, who fanned 11 to run her season strikeout total to 201. That is until the sixth, when Eddy threw Jill Whynot’s bunt attempt into right field to advance Whynot to third. Amanda Benner followed with another bunt that fell for a fielder’s choice with Whynot holding at third. Eddy fanned Grace Begin for the second out, bringing No. 5 hitter Isabella Marino to the plate.

Marino, who had struck out and popped up to the mound, drilled a ball to left that got over Katelynn Sirois’ head for a double to make it 2-0.

Winthrop overcomes miscues, beats Telstar to reach C south semis

...“It wasn’t pretty,” Winthrop coach Chuck Gurney said.

To reach the semifinals, the Ramblers needed to overcome a two-run deficit with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead.

Winthrop trailed 6-4 with the bottom half of its lineup due up in the the sixth. Molly Glaser led off with an infield single and Bry Baxter followed with another single.

Monmouth softball holds off Sacopee Valley in C South quarter

...Meanwhile, Chasse continued using her variety of pitches, inducing ten ground ball outs over the next four innings.

"Throwing different pitches, keeping them unaware of what I'm going to throw next was my game plan today. Throw some junk, not just fastballs," the junior pitcher said. "As for my defense, you just have to trust they're going to make the plays behind you."

"She mixed it up early. She's a good pitcher. Our hitters seemed to start figuring her out as the game went on but just couldn't get it done against her," Sacopee Valley coach Brian Hink said.

Madison, Ashley Emery race by Hall-Dale
Junior catcher homers twice as top-seeded Madison advances to Class C South semifinals.

...Emery was far from finished.

The 10th of 11 players to bat for Madison in the inning, she came up for a second time with two runners on and ripped a second home run to a virtually identical spot in right-center field to make it 8-1. If there had been an element of surprise involved in her first roundtripper, Emery had no such favor the second time — though she beat the throw home just as easily.

“I’m just trying to go as fast as I can,” Emery said. “I saw coach just keep winding his arm, so I knew I was going home.”

Carrabec softball falls to Lisbon in C South quarterfinals
Cobra slugger Bailey Dunphy held in check by Greyhounds.

...Unfortunately for the Carrabec softball team, it didn’t come from one of its players.

Instead, it came off the bat of Lisbon catcher Jasmin Le, in the form of an RBI single in the eighth inning that plated Mallory Fairbanks and gave the Greyhounds a 2-1 victory over the Cobras in the quarterfinal round Thursday.

“It just came in, I just swung for it, and it went out,” Le said.

Lisbon (11-6) — the No. 5 seed — will play at No. 1 Madison on Saturday in the semifinals. No. 4 Carrabec finished 11-6.
